PCEOC Pinon Canyon Expansion Opposition Coalition
It's been an eventful past 30 days or so, all in all.
Here's a brief overview and 'highlights' during that time......
[Be sure to also check our Blog and Twitter for daily updates]

Representatives Sal Pace and Wes McKinley, along with Senator Ken Kester succeeded in getting legislation (HB 1317) through the Colorado House and Senate - with terrific bi-partisan support.

The Governor has advised he will sign HB1317 to stop any potential sales of State lands to the Army for expanding Pinon Canyon (he hasn't signed yet but we trust his promise to do so!) Governor's press agent statement

Reps John Salazar and Betsy Markey continue to show their support for the region in a letter to Governor Ritter urging his signing HB1317 and in their ongoing efforts to legislate a permanent ban on any Pinon Canyon Expansion. read a copy of their letter here

Candidates looking to run for office in 2010 are coming out of the wood work - but a few obviously haven't done their homework on the bi-partisan support to stop the expansion of Pinon Canyon - McInnis and Coffman are examples of politicians with poorly thought out political strategies. read Gazette story on McInnis

By trying to 'blame' the Democracts in office for masterminding the opposition efforts they are also attacking their fellow Republicans alike that have voted to stop the Pinon Canyon expansion.  This is NOT a partisan issue no matter how hard they try to make it one to try to benefit their own agendas.  read a Post article on Coffman's claims

Other El Paso County and that immediately surrounding area legislators also are stating outright that we must all be simply 'anti-military' and the 'Army will leave Colorado' if Pinon Canyon isn't expanded.  These are simply last ditch efforts in the form of fear tactics that are the result of their own failures to justify and promote an unnecessary expansion of a little used maneuver site.  Read a Denver Post editorial and response

Instead of pointing their fingers at everyone else perhaps there should be some self analysis and review of their own morals and ethics.  Promising the DoD that which was not theirs to promise is the first and biggest mistake made that they cannot explain or excuse away.  read Colo Springs Bus Journal letter showing El Paso county residents understand what their elected officials refuse to

There are no compromises to be made.  The original landowners and surrounding communities sacrificed and 'compromised' their lives the first time around in the 1980s -  no more. read Doug Holdread's letter here

It doesn't take genius to understand that constantly taking from, burdening, and harassing your neighbors will not be tolerated for long.  That limit has been reached and there is no such thing as 'working it out' - NO MEANS NO. read the Chieftian editorial - 'Cancellation'

The Coalition's unrelenting efforts continue and our position remains.......

No funding and No expansion
of the Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site.
