Today the Colorado Senate formally voted on HB1317 barring the State Land Board from selling or leasing any lands it owns for the purpose of expanding Pinon Canyon. It passed with a 25 to 9 vote.
Be sure to thank all those Representatives and Senators that have been such ardent supporters of their constituents! Now it goes to the Governor for his consideration and signature.
Please write and call Governor Ritter to ask for his signature on this bill that has been overwhelmingly supported by our legislators!

_______________________________________________________________________ Colo. gov gets bill to block Army site expansion
Associated Press - April 29, 2009 3:04 PM ET DENVER
(AP) - Another attempt to block the proposed expansion of an Army
training site in southeast Colorado is on its way to Gov. Bill Ritter.
The Colorado Senate voted 25-9 to back House Bill 1317 on Wednesday. The House approved it earlier.
It would bar the state from selling or leasing state land board
property to the Army. Backers say an estimated 20% of the land the Army
wants to expand the Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site is owned by the land
board.
The Army says it needs more room to accommodate new weapons, new tactics and additional soldiers.
Many ranchers near Pinon Canyon oppose the move. In 2007, lawmakers
passed a bill barring the Army from using eminent domain to expand the
site. That was signed by the governor.
