| Senator Allard proposes to offer expansion authorization legislation that will sidestep other legislation he authored.
Senator Allard also requested the Army report, the public comments and the GAO report that won't be completed until January of 2009.
Please call, send letters, faxes, and e-mails to Senator Allard asking him to allow public input and comment along with the GAO report and not to just go ahead with presenting authorizing legislation.
Ask him not to reward the Army for defying the Congressional ban on spending for Pinon Canyon expansion. The moratorium on spending for the project was enacted by over a 90% majority of the House of Representatives and by a bi-partisan majority in the Senate. The Army ignored this ban and has continued to pursue their expansion plan. Clearly, the Army is in contempt of Congress.
Senator Allard should assert the principle of civilian control and oversight of the military. Senator Allard should also require them to at least follow the law that he enacted.
Ask Mr. Allard to uphold the legislation he has already enacted and not attempt to offer more legislation before the public and the GAO have had a chance to review and respond to the Army's report.
