PCEOC Pinon Canyon Expansion Opposition Coalition
Now the Army announces they 'might take less land to start with' even though 'it won't be enough'.

This just after the announcement that the funding ban will be attempted again for 2009 (it has a long way to go to be approved too -  it has to be voted on and passed in the House and then the Senate and then signed by the President - again).

We cannot back off or let them slip in during this time with any kind of tricks or suggestions of 'soul searching'.

Army Offers to Scale Back Land Purchases to 100,000 acres

From the press release that the Army put out:
The Army has re-examined its proposed purchases of land at the Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site (PCMS) in Southeastern Colorado, and offers major land acquisition changes to address public concerns, according to Keith E. Eastin, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations and Environment.  "We have done a lot of soul-searching, and the upcoming report we will submit to Congress is an honest effort to find common ground on this issue," said Mr. Eastin.

PCEOC response:
No expansion and no money for expansion.  That's the position that we continue to hold.  We will not be tricked into thinking they won't continue to expand.

We have proven over and over that there is no true need.  Not for 10 acres, not for 100,000 acres, not for 400,000 acres.  It is totally unnecessary.   The BRACC and other current sites available for the training needed readily show that.

If they want to 'search their soul' they should consider what they should be doing instead of seizing more land that would actually benefit the country.

They should be putting more effort into providing for basic troops' healthcare needs, protective equipment and associated needs.  They're not helping our troop's training or our country by destroying the integrity of the nation and the will of the people.

Honesty?  They don't know the meaning of the word as they have shown over and over and over that they can't be trusted.  There is no common ground that involves taking more land for training and this is obviously another example to show they will try any tactic they can to 'get their foot in the door'.

From the press release that the Army put out:
Nearly one year ago, Secretary of the Army Pete Geren wrote to Colorado's two Senators and promised that the Army "will go back to the drawing board on its land acquisition approach at PCMS, and listen and look to the local community for additional ideas and suggestions that we might use to improve the process."

PCEOC response:
We never made suggestions nor provided any ideas that could be considered 'additional ideas from the local communities'.  They hired a PR firm to try to get answers to leading questions that they thought they might use as 'evidence' of getting input but it's all a farce.

From the press release that the Army put out:
Section 2831 of the Fiscal Year 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (Public Law 110-181) required the Army to answer a series of detailed questions written by Colorado's Senators regarding the need for additional land at PCMS.

Among the Army's key recommendations will be a proposal to purchase approximately 100,000 acres adjacent to the southern boundary of the existing PCMS site, rather than its original plan of 418,000 acres.  The full report must be submitted by July 25, 2008.

PCEOC response:
So the map has changed for a fourth time?  They don't know what they want let alone what they need.  They started looking at over five million acres in 2002, perhaps earlier, and nothing shows they will vary from that ultimate goal of THE ENTIRE SE CORNER OF COLORADO.

This is just another example of their attempts to mislead and misdirect and of their 'takeover strategies' that continue to change to try to get another foothold again.

Give them 100,000 and they'll take five million.
