Foundation for Blind Children Awarded 2008 Valley Partnership Community

Valley Partnership, an organization with over 500 member companies within the real estate development industry, has awarded Foundation for Blind Children with their 2008 Valley Partnership Community Project. 
 
Named in honor of Laura Dozer, the nine-year old daughter of Rich and Karie Dozer, a former student of Foundation for Blind Children and an inspiration to all who knew her, the project will include a merry-go-round, swing set, trees and sensory garden, a "Tot Lot" with shaded structure, splash pad, passive turf area for a mini soccer field, kickball area and much more.
 
Using the skills and supplies provided by their members, Valley Partnership has completed twenty community projects and donated nearly $3 million in time, materials and labor to the community. Work on the Foundation grounds is scheduled for Saturday, November 8.

Recess Kids Club, the newest

AZ's FINEST Honorees Raised Over $240,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation AZ's FINEST Logo 
 
On Saturday, August 16, 2008, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation hosted their Tenth Annual AZ's FINEST Event at The Ritz Carlton in Phoenix. This year's distinguished honorees raised over $240,000.
 
The AZ's FINEST event is designed to spotlight Arizona's most influential trendsetters, honoring their professional and charitable accomplishments. This year 19 honorees were selected by a designated Judges Review Panel. Honorees exemplify strong leadership qualities, are active in volunteer roles and have excelled in the Arizona business community.
 
The 2008 AZ's FINEST Campaign began with an Honoree Kick-Off Reception on April 2, 2008 and culminated with an Honoree Recognition dinner hosted by ABC 15 Anchor, Katie Raml on August 16, 2008, at the Ritz Carlton. Jennifer Kaplan, Co-Owner of PRIME 3, was the event's distinguished 2008 Chairman.
 
Each year the Honoree who raises the most dollars during his/her fundraising campaign receives the coveted Traveling Trophy Award. This year's Traveling Trophy Award went to Korey Boals.  
Living Canvas Tattoos Inc. Anniversary Events Draw Large Crowds for a Good Cause LCT Logo
 
On Monday, September 15, 2008, Living Canvas Tattoos celebrated 15 years of excellent service by hosting a 15-hour tattooing event with all proceeds benefiting the Phoenix Children's Hospital.
 
From 9 am to 12 Midnight, the public was invited to visit Living Canvas Tattoos and as a thank you for 15 years of business, received a limited tattoo session for $15. In addition to the $15 tattoos, Living Canvas Tattoos hosted a variety of food and entertainment throughout the day. Live Music featuring some of Arizona's most talented DJ's including DJ Fashen, MCB and XXXClusive rotated throughout the 15 hours.  The event provided tattoos to over 180 people.
 
To continue their anniversary celebrations, Living Canvas Tattoos hosted an Anniversary Party on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Dirty Pretty in Scottsdale. The evening began at 9:00 pm with an invite-only celebration. VIP guests included dedicated Living Canvas Tattoos clients, friends and various local and nationally recognized celebrities. The event opened to the public at 11:00 pm.

Shadowlands Haunted Attraction Brings Another Year of Horror and Fright to Fiesta Mall Starting September 26th Shadowlands Logo
 
This fall, Shadowlands, formerly know as The Revenant Haunted Attraction, will be back with more chilling adventures. Shadowlands has extended the attraction from two to three fully-themed attractions and has made the 2 original haunts 33% longer. The fully interactive, immersive and haunting experiences known as The Revenant, The Chamber, and Shadowlands newest edition, The Wrath are coming to Westcor's Fiesta Mall in Mesa from September 26 to November 1, 2008.
 
The three fully-themed experiences, spread over 60,000 square feet in the southeast parking lot, will require participants to solve the mystery of an ancient evil society (known as the Benandanti) while exploring over 60 haunting scenes. 
 
Entering Shadowlands will be more like entering a horror film than a typical haunt. Groups will be involved in decision-making that would seem to produce different outcomes, creating the ultimate interactive haunted attraction. 
 
Shadowlands will be open Thursday and Sundays from 7 to 10pm and Fridays and Saturdays 7 to 11pm. The haunt will be open from 7 to 12 midnight on Halloween night. Tickets are $15 online and $18 in person.

The Hispanic Women's Corporation will be hosting the 23rd National Hispanic Women's Conference on October 9-10, 2008, at the Phoenix Convention Center. Originally established in 1981, HWC empowers Latina women by serving as an effective voice for the Hispanic community.
 
Since its inauguration, The Hispanic Women's Conference has grown in size to become the largest gathering of Latinas in the nation. The conference consists of business and community leaders, public officials and sponsoring organizations for two days of education, motivational presentations, panel discussions, forums and special events. Over the course of the two days, HWC provides the opportunity to learn from more than 50 renowned presenters who will address key topics in the areas of professional development, personal growth, wealth-building and solutions to social issues that Latinas face today. HWC also provides a Youth Leadership Institute for Latina high school students covering topics of college admissions, financial aid, careers and empowerment.

Foundation for Blind Children Hosts
7th Annual Night for Sight, November 1st

On Saturday, November 1st the Foundation for Blind Children (FBC) will host its seventh annual "Night for Sight" benefit at Mastro's City Hall Steakhouse in Scottsdale, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Now in its seventh year, "Night for Sight" has grown to become one of the Valley's premier fundraising extravaganzas and raised over $1,000,000 in 2007.
 
Beginning with hosted cocktails and a silent auction, guests will also enjoy a delectable dinner featuring the fine cuisine from Mastro's City Hall Steakhouse followed by a live auction and dancing. All proceeds of the evening will benefit the Foundation for Blind Children, which helps blind and visually impaired children, adults and their families lead lives of independence and dignity through mastery of their environment.

The Olive Branch Fund Hosts "A Mighty Voice" Fundraiser Walk at Phoenix Zoo, November 2nd

On Sunday, November 2nd The Olive Branch Fund: A Thisbe and Noah Scott Legacy, a non-profit organization started by former Arcadia residents and Phoenix business owners, John and Laurian Scott, will be hosting "A Mighty Voice," a multi-city fundraiser to raise awareness and fund research for pediatric motor neuron diseases (MNDs) at the Phoenix Zoo. The Olive Branch Fund was founded in honor of their two children, Elenna "Thisbe" and Noah Scott, who were both lost to Brown-Vialetto-Van Laere (BVVL), a rare form of MND, the cause of which is still unknown.
 
The fundraiser will include a two-mile walk through the Phoenix Zoo, a commemorative t-shirt for every walker, as well as an all-day zoo pass. It is through this, and other fundraisers throughout the nation, that the Scott family hopes to create "A Mighty Voice" for all children affected by motor neuron diseases.

On Friday, November 7th Valley residents are invited to wine and dine at the 7th Annual First Press Weekend of Wine Grand Tasting event. This one-of-a-kind event, taking place at the Hotel Valley Ho from 6 - 9 pm, is a wine tasting with over 100 award winning wines from around the globe, gourmet hors d'oeuvres and a "Food Fight" competition featuring the 2007 defending Champion Aaron May of Sol y Sombra.
 
Guests are invited to see what other tasty concoctions can be created with passed gourmet hors d'oeuvres in the courtyard and the "Food Fight" competition near the pool. While availability is limited, the penthouse suite has been reserved for VIP foodies to enjoy a progressive style dinner and paired wines. The chefs that will be showcased in these suites include Chef Pace from The Capital Grille, Chef Lopez from Durant's and Chef Wiley from Hotel Valley Ho.
 
On Saturday, November 8th, the First Press Weekend of Wine will continue the festivities with the First Press Fine Wine Auction. The First Press Wine Auction is a celebration of exceptional wines from all over the world. This black-tie event pairs different wine vendors with a 5-course gourmet dinner that has been specially created for First Press. The night will continue with a silent and live auction.
