Thank You for 25 Years of Parenting Place
|
On April 18th Parenting
Place celebrated 25 years in Boulder County
with a gala reception at the St. Julien hotel. Many supporters attended
the event, including our first Executive Director; a long line of Board
Members, individuals who joined our groups with toddlers and are now the
parents of young adults, volunteers who got our programs running, many years of caring
staff members, and donors who have supported us financially in both good economies
and bad.
Throughout our 25 year history these individuals have supported us in
every way imaginable. In addition to
providing a chance to reflect on how far our organization has come over the
years, the fundraiser raised $30,000 that will be used directly for our
programs.
Like the parents who have come to our center, Parenting Place has
grown stronger from the connections we have formed with our community. We have received lessons from those more
experienced, shared challenges with peers in similar situations, collaborated
with others who have similar goals, learned over time what works and ways to
improve what doesn't, all the while being held up by a community that believes
in our mission. Our 25th
Anniversary Gala reminded us of this strong foundation as we move forward into
the future.
Parenting Place is constantly striving to better serve our
mission of providing resources and referrals to parents, expanding parent
education, and building a sense of community among the families of Boulder and Broomfield
counties. We have a skilled staff that
engages in local committees on topics such as education, health, and outreach. We are proud of our relationships with partner
agencies and are determined to distribute up-to-date information and resources to
our families. Our long history in Boulder County has afforded us many strong
relationships with professionals that readily donate their valuable time to
speak about parenting topics during our groups.
We strive to reach out to new communities needing support and to offer
services that fill in gaps for families, giving a safe refuge to parents
searching for support. Bright Beginnings, a partner of Parenting Place for over a decade, is reaching more parents every year with crucial parenting materials about child development. We are looking towards the future and evolving to serve
our families, our community, and the next generation of parents.
We thank everyone that has ever been a part of our mission. We especially thank the parents that do this work
every day with their own families. You
are our inspiration.

Their improvements have gone a long way towards making Parenting Place an even more inviting place for families to spend their time. Flatirons Solutions Flatirons Solutions will be coming in May for a volunteer day. Si/See Rugs at Boulder Farmers' Market
|
Boulder
Farmers' Market will be holding Fine Art & Craft Fairs throughout
2009. There will be 7 Fair days this year with live music and kids'
activities at each one. Fine Art & Craft sales are in Central Park
(Corner of 13th and Canyon) adjacent to the market. The Fair will be featuring interesting and high-quality art, including the Si, SEE Project on July 18th, 2009 and September 19th, 2009.
The SI,SEE Project is based on a desire empower Latino women through pride in what they make with their hands. Hooked rugs have been a signature craft of North American women since pioneer times. Today in the United States these rugs are seen as antiques. Latino
cultures are known for their colorful hand-crafted work. This is a
trait that is often abandoned when the need to make a living takes
precedence over art. Teaching Latino women about the history and craft
of the pioneer women has helped them connect to the history of the
North American culture, and has given them the opportunity to combine
with it, their own sense of artistic cultural worth. In addition,
coming together as a group once a week has been a way of supporting
each other, and encouraging community. Parenting Place has been hosting
this group for Latina women with young children for over a year. Join
us at the Boulder Farmers' Market for an art show and sale
of the beautiful rugs the women in the project have created. The rugs
are all made with 100% recycled wool sweaters, and are each
one-of-a-kind. To inquire more about the SI,SEE Project and to make donations please contact Marcela Ot'alora at 303.818.1419.

CHP+ Low Cost Health Insurance Program for Children and Pregnant Women
|
Many children (age 18 and younger) in working and
middle-class families qualify for this low-cost health insurance program, which
is also available for pregnant women. If a family qualifies, the most they
would pay is a $25 premium per year for one child ($35 per year for more than
one) and a co-pay of $0 to $5 per doctor visit.
Eligibility is
determined after child care and elder care costs, medical and dental
expenses, child support, alimony, and health insurance premiums are deducted
from the families' monthly income. Once enrolled, the insurance is valid
for an entire year--even if the family's income increases.
If you know a
child or pregnant woman who does not have health insurance please
call Karen Kandel at 303.449.0177 x.8.
