Yes, folks, you heard that right.  Starting this month I will be the host of the "Debbi Kickham Show" dedicated to ALL THINGS MARKETING. My show will air on Dedham Public TV, which reaches about 45,000 viewers in Dedham and Westwood, Mass. MAKING A TV APPEARANCE? GIVING A TV INTERVIEW FOR YOUR BUSINESS OR BOOK? HERE ARE SOME GREAT TIPS THAT I'VE LEARNED OVER THE YEARS.

 

1). Make your appearance snap, crackle and pop.  You want to be enthusiastic.

 

2).  Wear something sharp.  For women, that means classic jewelry such as pearls and a gold necklace.  For men it means a suit with a colorful tie.   Don't follow the example of movie stars who frequently show up on TV in their shabbiest clothes.

 

3).  Put your responses into "sound bites" and get those sound bites across to convey your key messages -- no matter what question you are asked.

 

4).  Make sure you are impeccably groomed.

 

5).  Practice, practice, practice what you want to say and how you want to say it.  Use a mirror, then try to say it in front of an invisible audience.  The more you rehearse, the more comfortable and natural you will be in front of the camera.

 

6).  Be ready for the "zinger" question you don't want to be asked.  It probably will be asked! Have a good answer for uncomfortable questions.

Breaking News -- Be ready to pounce on a news story that affects your business.

 

Trend -- Does your story tap into a social, political or economic trend?

 

Anti-trend -- On the flip side, has your business bucked a trend and zigged where everyone else has zagged?

 

Offbeat -- Does your business have an unusual or even a wacky angle? 

 

Timely -- Can you connect your story to current events?
