Racine Art Museum's Wustum Location
Hosts Racine and Vicinity Show:
All Media Juried Competition

On June 4, 2011, RAM's Wustum Museum of Fine Arts continues a museum tradition with the opening of Racine and Vicinity Show: All Media Juried Competition. A glimpse into local talent, this juried exhibition showcases work from artists residing throughout Racine, Kenosha, and Walworth counties, along with RAM members from outside the area.The show features 117 accepted pieces by 103 artists,this year's show will be on view at RAM's Wustum Museum through August 27, 2011.

 

Of the unprecedented 504 pieces submitted by 210 artists, less than one-quarter of the pieces were chosen for this year's show. Over $1,000 in prizes will be awarded at the opening reception to the artists whose pieces are selected as the best in the show.

Graeme Reid selected the works to be included, as well as the awards for this year's exhibition. Reid is currently Assistant Director at the Museum of Wisconsin Art, having previously worked at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center (Sheboygan, WI), the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette (IN) and the Swope Art Museum (Terre Haute, IN). Over the years, Reid has curated over 120 group and solo exhibitions.

 

The opening reception for Racine and Vicinity Show will be held at RAM's Wustum Museum of Fine Arts on Saturday, June 4 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. The awards presentation will begin at 3:00 pm.

Together, the two campuses of the Racine Art Museum, RAM in downtown Racine at 441 Main Street and the Charles A. Wustum Museum of Fine Arts at 2519 Northwestern Avenue, seek to elevate the stature of contemporary crafts to that of fine art by exhibiting significant works in craft media with painting, sculpture and photography, while providing outstanding educational art programming.

Docent led contemporary craft and architectural tours of the museums are available. Both campuses of the Racine Art Museum, are open to the public Tuesday - Saturday 10:00 am - 5:00 pm, and are closed Mondays, Federal holidays and Easter. RAM is open Sunday Noon - 5:00 pm, while Wustum is closed Sundays. An admission fee of $5 for adults, with reduced fees for students and seniors, applies at RAM. Admission to Wustum is free. Members are always admitted without charge to either campus.
