The Whole Cookie Thing
Some weeks ago, I wrote about the concept of offering assistance or a kindness to people
and how they might respond. I thought it was worth a second entry...
If you recall, I said that your offering to help someone or something that you offer to others is like making a batch of cookies. You think the cookies are great and want to share them with others. So you take your delicious cookies, (imagine you offer a cookie sheet full of your cookies - which is really offering yourself) to others. Some will be delighted with your cookies, some will accept them because they are hungry and some will flat out refuse your cookies or tell you that that they don't want any cookies that you make.
The more I follow the concept of the cookies - which is to continue to put yourself out there in service and in kindness to others, even if you are sometimes rejected or rebuffed. Remembering the cookies, helps you to to keep things in perspective. Some will accept what you offer and some will not. When they don't - it is ok - they just don't want your cookies - but someone else will...
Detach from it and say, "Well, it is just a cookie thing and I am ok with that."
This concept really helps you cope with life's disappointments. I remember the cookie thing at least once a week in my own life experiences. It keeps me from getting depressed or down on myself.
But don't forget that your cookies are special and unique. Someone will want them!
Never give up.
