When you offer something to someone else, you are giving of yourself. Whether it is offering assistance, advice, love or material things, it is coming from you and is considered an extension of you.
But sometimes people do not accept or strongly reject what you want to offer them, even if it is freely given with the best intentions. This creates a wide range of emotions of anger, hurt feelings, confusion, insecurity or to allow the seeming rejection to spin around in your mind endlessly after the event. Rejection hurts! But it can be looked at another way.
Imagine this:
You have made a tray full of delicious cookies. Fresh out of the oven and of your favorite flavor. You like these cookies and want to share them with others. So you take your tray of cookies into the world and offer them with enthusiasm.
Some will accept your cookies, and you feel happy. Others will take a cookie or two without much fuss and move on. Some people do not like cookies or don't want any cookies at that moment and politely say, no thank you - and that is OK.
But in life you will also come across some people who will outright reject your cookies in a very strong way. They don't like your cookies, don't want any stinkin' cookies and make a big commotion and can hurt your feelings about the lovely cookies that you baked just to share with them.
But the trick is to step back from the people who don't want your cookies and keep it in perspective and say - Well, they did'nt want my cookies, but someone else will and it is OK.
Believe that your cookies (you) are valuable and that if that person does not care to see the value in them (you) it is their loss.
Keep this in mind each time you bump up against rejection, harsh reactions to you and
difficult people. When they react strongly to you, say to yourself, ok, they did not want my cookies, but I am OK with that, and the next person I meet will want them.
Let the resentment or disappointment go - it does not serve you.
You will see that this will help you cope with conflict, save some hurt feelings and keep your self confidence in tact.
You can smile when this happens and say to yourself,
"This is just a cookie thing," and go on with your day.

Authentic Matters recently exhibited at the Expatica Event - I am not a Tourist Fair.
