Director's Corner
Our summer theme has been RENEW. Our tagline has been "One Summer. Countless changes..."
I am one of those people who love change. I look forward to the change in the seasons. I believe change adds spice to life. I believe change is necessary for growth. I also have found that the most significant changes are difficult. At the end of this summer season, the Center will experience one of those difficult, significant, good changes.
Matt Irons, Swim and Fitness Director; Kristy Irons, Fitness Instructor; Betsy Fouts, Swim School Deck Supervisor; Rachel Yarranton, PCA Swim Team Supervisor will be leaving the Center staff at the end of this summer.
As much as I will miss them, I am equally joyful and excited for Matt, Kristy, Betsy, and Rachel, because they are leaving the Center to pursue their lifelong dreams.

Matt and Kristy Irons will be moving to Philadelphia to live closer to Kristy's parents and to pursue Matt's dream of going back to school. Betsy will be moving to Sacramento to be a pre-school teacher. Rachel will be staying in the Bay Area to be a junior high school teacher at Notre Dame School.
Over the past year, I've had the privilege of coming alongside with each one of them as they have wrestled and reached this decision. I can testify that it has not been an easy decision for them to leave PCC after so many years of investing in and changing so many lives.
Matt, Betsy, and Rachel have literally grown up around the Center pool. As kids, they learned to swim at the Center and be part of PCA Swim Team. They also built countless of long-term relationships as they have taught and coached thousands of kids how to swim. Most significantly, Matt, Betsy, and Rachel invested their lives into leading a generation of swim teachers, coaches, and lifeguards.
Four years ago, Kristy Irons came to the Center as Matt's new bride. Since then, she has raised two wonderful kids: Alexa and Drew. Kristy has taught fitness classes at the Center while teaching at the Jean Weingarten Oral Deaf School in Redwood City. Kristy has also been an incredible influence in the Center's growing number of young families, especially the moms.
The Center will miss the Matt, Kristy, Betsy, and Rachel tremendously. They have all helped shape the Center through their faithfulness, service, laughter, tears, and love. They have brought God's love to so many people. As part of the Center staff, they have set the bar of excellence on which the Center will build upon moving forward.
Matt, Kristy, Betsy, and Rachel are examples of what makes the Center community more than just a fitness center.
The end of this summer marks my 1st year anniversary as Center Director. It's been a great memorable year. My most treasured memories from this year are the memories of Matt, Kristy, Betsy, and Rachel as we worked, laughed, cried, served, led, and ministered side by side at the Center.
I am excited to find out how God will continue to use Matt, Kristy, Betsy, and Rachel live out the PCC Center mission, vision, and values in Philadelphia, Sacramento, and the Bay Area.
Betsy and Rachel have already started their new jobs, but promise to visit the Center in the next few weeks. Matt and Kristy Irons' last day at PCC will be September 16. Please join me in ensuring that we appropriately celebrate, laugh, cry, love, and appreciate Matt, Kristy, Betsy, and Rachel as much as we can now...and beyond.
See you at the Center!
Anthony
Center Director

PCA Masters Tackle Tahoe
This past weekend on Saturday, July 23, 60 swimmers representing our PCA Masters Swim Team swam across Lake Tahoe from Nevada to California. They were a part of a larger contingent of 189, 6-person teams, or 1134 total swimmers who completed the 11.2 mile crossing from Sand Harbor Nevada to Skylandia Beach, Lake Forest, California about a mile from Tahoe City. This event has been conducted by the Olympic Club of San Francisco for the past 35 years, and has grown in popularity each year.
All of our teams that started the event finished just within the 6 hours time limit, and a great day on the lake was had by all.
The weather was perfect, and the water temp around 60 degrees. No wetsuits are allowed in this event, and the air is a bit thinner at Lake Tahoe, which adds to the challenge for the swimmers.
The day was complete with a large dinner party held at Coach Mike's cabin, and over a hundred swimmers and families shared stories and accounts of the day on the lake. A great day was had by all.
Thanks to the many supporters of this event for their time, talents, and treasure to make this event possible. See you all next year.
Coach Mike

Goodbye to Betsy
Betsy Fouts has been a PCC summer icon for many years. She has the unique story of starting out on the PCC swim team, then became a swim instructor at age 14 and then eventually ran our swim school which she's done for three summers. As life goes, she graduated from UC Davis in June and finds herself heading off to the "real world" to work at a preschool serving under privileged kids in the Sacramento area.
PCC has been blessed by her dedication and sacrifice to make the swim school what it is today. It's been wonderful having her dynamic presence on deck for all these years, serving the members and their kids. A special thank you to Betsy as we wish her all the best!

WE DID IT AGAIN -- The PCC3.5W will be moving on to District Playoffs on July 12, 13, 14. With great tenacity and skill the team pulled out a nice 3-2 win over Ladera Oaks this past Sunday. It's been a great season. GO TEAM!!!
-Diane Rogers

CHALLENGE COURT
Come on out this Friday for some fun doubles challenges. This is for all levels and one of our tennis staff will be there to help you get a game going with people of a similar level. We've been having a great time out on the courts! This week we'll be playing from 4:30-7pm. No Challenge Court on August 12th in lieu of the adult mixer!
Challenge court has been a great addition for PCC tennis players. You can come alone or with a partner, you can even come with a partner you want to play against! All levels are welcome. The matches are often mixed (male and female partners), young guns play, seniors play, if you come you will play! It is very informal; run with the staff's assistance, and a great way to meet other members and play some fun social doubles. Sometimes the staff even plays, which is a great way to see if you can hit a clean winner against a pro!
See you on the courts Friday, Robert Falls.
SPRING LADDER RESULTS
Thank you to all 24 players for joining our ladder this past spring! There were over 120 matches played! Congratulations to Shep Newcomb, for ending on the top of the ladder by beating his father and our very own tennis director, Sid...twice. Congratulations also, to Alfredo Piazza for most matches played (18) and Kimberly MacLaren for most matches won (8)...way to beat all those guys Kimberly!
7th Annual EPATT Mid-Peninsula Ladies Doubles Ladder 2011-2012
Registration - Deadline September 6th
Cost - $25 per person/$50 per team
What is EPATT?
The proceeds from this ladies doubles ladder are donated to East Palo Alto
Tennis and Tutoring.
When?
Matches are scheduled for the second or fourth Friday of the month. Starting
times are 10am or 11:30am depending on the preference of the home club -
guest fees waived - matches may be played on private courts if the "home"
team so chooses. If all four parties agree - the match can be moved to another
day & time. Teams play once a month from September through May (except
December).
How is the ladder constructed?
For example, each team has an USTA or NTRP total so that 3.5 and 4.0 teammates = 7.5, or if the partners were a 2.5 and a 3.0 then that team = 5.5
Email Alex Martin, alexm@peninsulacovenant.com for more information and a registration form.
