What did you do for Spring Break?

Many of you got your last ski runs up in the mountains. I've heard some of you took off to your favorite vacation spots like Kauai. For some, this spring break was the year of the "Stay-cation" (aka vacation at home) because of the tough economic times and high gas prices.

For 6 Community Center coaches, Mexico was the place to be. I know Spring Break in Mexico for young adults conjures up all kinds of images of wild partying. This Spring Break was definitely not one of those. These coaches joined 110 adults and students in this year's PCC High School Outreach trip to love the marginalized, the orphaned, and the forgotten in Mexico.

Here's an account from Victor Hernandez, Center PE Program Manager and Junior Jocks Trainer.

The Community Center's role in this year's High School Mexico Outreach trip ended up being a bit larger than what we original expected it be. Sports Ministry happened at four different sites and served approximately 150 local children. Having The Center coaches on the trip made sports ministry a success. Not only were the high school students equipped to teach and serve the children in Mexico about Basketball, Frisbee, and Jesus. They were able to pass on a sport ministry program to the local church so they can continue to minister to kids through sports. The coaches were amazing examples and encouragers for the high school students to step out in ministry through sports.

Highlights

  • Seeing three parks full of Mexican kids playing ultimate Frisbee
  • Preparing high school students do sports ministry
  • Handing out "brand new jersey's" (donated Upwards coach's shirts) to a Rehab Center's men's soccer team
  • Building real relationships with local families and kids through sports

We have an incredible community at the Center. My desire is that as a community we would be willing to use what we have to help those less fortunate than us. This Spring Break your Center coaches sacrificed their own time and money to do just that.

Talk to me if you would like to find out more about the many opportunities that the Center is involved in helping those less fortunate in Redwood City and beyond.

See you at the Center!

Anthony

Dear Tennis Members,

We are in the midst of a very busy season.  Our 5 courts are getting maximum use.  We have over 100 kids and 100 adults taking part in our lesson program every week.  This season we have 6 adult USTA teams and have multiple Saturday's where we are hosting 2 home matches on the same day!  So far, we have yet to receive a complaint from a member so I personally wanted to thank each of you for your patience and flexibility in your tennis scheduling.  As the weather is getting better and better this Spring I am hoping to see even more of you out there regularly.

Help Keep the Pool Open this Summer!

Follow these simple directives and do your part to keep our pool open all season long!
Thank you!

DOUBLE DIAPER POLICY:Children in diapers must wear BOTH a disposable swim diaper and reusable diaper (available at Front Desk) tightly. Even though water resistant, disposable swim diapers deteriorate and reach capacity quickly. The reusable diaper acts as a second layer of protection.

BATHROOM  Take your child to the bathroom at regular intervals.

HIT THE RED BUTTON If a child has a fecal accident in the baby pool, please push the Red button on the shed adjacent to the baby pool (alarm will sound) and inform front desk or a lifeguard IMMEDIATELY. The two pools share a filtration system. When depressed, the red button shuts off the filtration system. If done soon enough after a fecal accident, the baby pool can be isolated, allowing the main pool to stay open while addressing the accident.
