Director's Corner

Besides kids, who makes up the largest group at the Center?

Let me give you a hint. Who are driving most of the cars at the Center between the hours of 8AM-11AM and 4PM-6PM?

You got it. Moms!

With all due respect to the rest of the Center Community, this article is for all the Center Moms, especially the Moms who have set aside their personal goals because of their marriage, children, career, and caring for aging parents.

If as a Mom you've ever wondered, "Is this all there is?" then I'd like to invite you to attend the Mothers Together event at PCC, April 14, 9:15 AM -11:15 AM.

By attending, you'll have the opportunity to hear Kathi Lipp, who is a national speaker and author. Kathi will speak on her latest book The Me Project. I'm confident that you'll enjoy Kathi's warm tone and laugh-out-loud humor to motivate you in taking daily steps toward bringing purpose back into your lives and give you the confidence you can do it in spite of existing commitments.

Here's one woman's review of book:

"I found it to be a great book for new moms, or those experiencing the empty-nest syndrome, who are struggling to balance the role of motherhood with their lifelong dreams. Because truth-be-told, it's so easy to get so engrossed in the role mother, wife, and worker-bee that we totally forget about what makes us, as women, come alive. It's so easy to forget about our own dreams in life or to make excuses as to why we cannot afford to have our own dreams."

Here's another reason to attend this event FREE CHILDCARE for two hours! ;-)

I hope that you'll take advantage of this great event at PCC. For more information or to RSVP for childcare send an email to mt@wearepcc.com

See you at the Center!

COURT CONGESTION

Tennis members...so great that Spring has finally arrived!  I know many of us are getting back out on the court after a soggy few weeks.  Last evening two members showed up and all 5 courts were occupied.  This is happening quite frequently in the afternoons and evenings.  Did you know that our tennis membership is completely full and now has a waiting list?  Did you know that this Spring we are fielding 6 USTA teams instead of our normal 5?  Great news is that a lot of people are playing on our beautiful courts!  The challenge is that sometimes it may be difficult to get a court.  Here are a few suggestions:

1.   Try and reserve your court time as soon as you are able.  You can call the front desk 4 days ahead of time.

2.    See if you can arrange your weekly schedule to fit in a tennis game at off peak times.  There are almost always courts available on weekdays between 1pm and 3pm.

3.   Be extra flexible and courteous to other tennis members and their guests if a court conflict comes up.

NEW!!! Tennis Challenge Court

Begins Friday, April 29:

When: Every Friday from 3pm-7pm; come any time and stay for as long as you can

     Where: Court 3

What:  Men's, Women's, and Mixed Doubles for any level!

Who: Organized and Run by PCC Tennis Staff

WELCOME...

Julio Hermosillo

As our tennis membership has grown so has the demand for more lessons and junior program coaches.  We are very excited to welcome Julio Hermosillo to our professional staff.  Julio is professionally certified by the USPTA.  He has helped in our summer camp program and in our school outreach programs over the past few years.  Julio is qualified to give private and group lessons.  Please take time to say hello to him when you see him around.  His huge smile and positive demeanor will certainly brighten your day.  You can reach Julio for lessons or just to welcome him on board at coach.julio@gmail.com or leave him a voice mail on the PCC tennis extension which is 650-364-6272 ext 265.

QUICKSTART

Our Quickstart program is in full swing with just 2 weeks left!  We've been having so much fun!  The kids who couldn't hit a ball at the beginning are starting to be able to not only hit it, but hit it in the court!  And the older kids are now playing across the big net on a modified size court.  It's so much fun to watch these kids having rallies and playing real tennis without the balls bouncing over their heads.  Here are a few pictures to show you the fun...

TENNIS OUTREACH IN EAST PALO ALTO

One of our PCC Coaches, Jose Avalos, will be directing an afterschool tennis program in East Palo Alto at Ravenswood School.  This is a super program to introduce tennis to a community of students who would not usually get the opportunity for tennis lessons.  The program begins in April and runs Mondays - Fridays from 3:00-6:00.  There are a lot of kids and if you are interested in helping out as a volunteer we sure would love that.  We will accept any form of help, even if you can just make it down there 1 day.  For more information please contact Coach Sid at sidn@wearepcc.com or Coach Jose at coachjose@att.net.

NEW WILSON RACQUETS

A new line of 2011 Wilson racquets are hanging up by the front desk!  If you are looking to replace yours, now is the time!  We've got new strings in as well...try them out next time you need your strings replaced!

PCAPCA Dolphin Swim Team News

"Gang-Green"

PCA sent 21 swimmers (alongside their coaches) dressed in bright kelly-green sweatshirts to the Pacific Swimming Junior Olympics Championships in San Ramon the weekend of March 18th 2011. Despite the poor weather conditions the 'Gang of Green' swimmers performed impressively with best times accomplished across the board. Megan Beach (17) earned a few Junior Olympic Championship first place finishes throughout the meet, accompanied by a few teammates who snatched some evening finals swims on Friday and Saturday as well. Congratulations to all on a great meet!!!
