From the Director
The Community Center is made up of many different communities. One of those communities is the Upward Basketball community. As Center Director, I want to thank you for helping make Upward possible at the Center and changing lives. How did you help? You helped each time you parked on the other side of the bridge because the Center parking lot was full of kids and adults getting ready for an Upward game or practice. You helped when you cleared the gym quickly after an exercise class so that the kids anxiously waiting to start practice or a game could get into the gym. You helped if you are one of those who provided financial scholarships for kids in our local schools. Without the scholarships, the kids would not have the opportunity to play in a sports league otherwise. You helped if you are one of the many who volunteered to be a coach, referee, or game commissioner at Upward. Regardless of how you helped, I want you to know that your sacrifice helped over 300 elementary school kids, their parents, their relatives, and their friends enjoy and benefit from Upward. This year, we had more kids who have never played basketball. We had more first time volunteers, and we provided more financial scholarships. In addition to learning how to enjoy playing basketball, the kids in Upward also learned about developing character and how much God loves them. As a dad, I want to personally thank you, too. Coaching my son this year in Upward was a major milestone for me. My son is the last of my 3 kids that I have coached in Upward over the last 10 years. Long after I have forgotten the game scores and team win-loss records, I will continue to cherish the memories of time spent encouraging, practicing, laughing, and coaching my daughters and my son in Upward. So whether you knew it or not, you are a part of helping change lives through the Upward community. If you donšt believe me, just ask my son. See you at the Center, Anthony Mejia PCC Community Center Director |

Operations
We have launched our new front desk and accounting software system effective March 1st. Here are some highlights of the new system and some exciting new features coming soon. Most of all we need YOUR help in making the transition as smooth as possible. Please help us: A) Bring your scan card with you to check-in. This policy protects the integrity and value of your membership, and allows our staff to serve you and learn your names faster. We value our relationships with you. B) If you do not have a card or a CURRENT photo, let us give you one. It literally takes 30 seconds or less. ALL members 16 and over must have a card and photo on file. C) If you do forget your card, the system will access you via your NAME. Your account number is no longer used for ID purposes. The number on your scan card is your Member ID, and this is NOT your account (billing) number. D) When signing in, staff may remind you that your account needs some attention. This may be updating a credit card expiring soon, needing an email, or taking care of a balance. If you need adjustments on your account, the front desk staff can probably help or will direct you to the best person to take care of you. We are here and happy to help. Features: 1) The COMPETE system is hosted by an industry leading company (Fiserv) that is fully PCI compliant with all safeguards for your identity, data, file encryption, etc. 2) We will be able to process check-ins, and Point of Sale transactions more swiftly to allow our staff to do what they do best...Serve and engage with you and your family. 3) Enrolling and paying for programs and special classes is a simple process. This helps our staff in many ways to communicate with you and better serve you and your children. 4) Coming soon, we will be enabling MEMBER login services. You will be able to view your account and make updates, as well as enroll in certain programs and reserve certain services such as personal training and tennis courts. We are excited to offer these to you. Again, thanks for your patience as we work through the upgrade and learn the new programs. Great things come - one step at a time.

PCC AT THE SAP OPEN The SAP Open was an exciting event for those PCCers who were able to attend. There were over 20 of us who attended the semi-finals match (most on our party bus!) on Saturday, February 12, and watched Fernando Verdasco defeat Juan Martin Del Potro in an exciting match. We also had PCC attend on Friday, Feb 11th, and Tuesday the 8th was PCC Jr Night. During this week PCC was also represented with our 10 juniors who were ball kids for the SAP. In the picture (l-r, back row 1st): Monica Chanda, Jorge Lopez, Coach Sid, Max Siegel, Niņo Lopez, Payton Newcomb, Jackson Lingane, Sadie Rhen, Stefan Touhey, Jackson Lingane, and Ty Newcomb. They had a wonderful time and are already looking forward to organizing another trip down next year!

PCA Dolphin Swim Team News
DACA C/B/A+ Meet at Saratoga High School
The Dolphins traveled to Saratoga High School's pool for an amazing meet the weekend of February 12-13th 2011. For the most part the weather was warm and that meant smiles all around (coaches and swimmers!). PCA had a fantastic meet with almost every swimmer posting at least one best time throughout the weekend. The following swimmers tore up the pool to achieve 'A' Times: Isabelle Couch (10) - 100 Back, Maya Gotthard (10) - 500 Free, Christina Howard (10) - 50 Breast, 100 Breast and 50 Fly, Kyla Guinon (12) - 200 Back and 100 IM, Madeline Ditzler (13) - 100 Back, Noa Garcia-Brown (14) - 50 Free, Bradley Jerome (14) - 200 IM, Griffin Scheinman (13) - 200 Free and Taylor Beach (17) - 100 Fly. Maya Gotthard (10) and Lukas Bauer (11) also added some Junior Olympic qualifying times to their collection. Maya qualified in the 100 Fly and Lukas qualified in 100 and 200 Freestyle. Madeline Ditzler (13) and Kayla Bauhas (17) swam outstanding races to qualify themselves for Far Westerns. Madeline qualified in 200 Breast and Kayla in 100 Fly and 200 IM. Finally, Lydia Bauer (8) - probably one of our youngest swimmers at the meet, had some fantastic swims but none better than her 25 Breaststroke in which she swam a 20.85 to achieve her very first Pacific Recordable Time (PRT). Congratulations on a great meet. Gooooo Dolphins!
PCA Masters News
Meter Maniacs Make Many Marvelous Waves in February
This year and for many years previously, the pool heats up with a frenzy during February as the focus of PCA Masters and many fitness and lap swimmers turn their attention to METER MANIA.
All during the month, swimmers keep a daily record of their total meters swum each day, and record it on a large tote board for all to see. This year, 177 swimmers took part, a near record turnout for total swimmers. The total distance swum was 4 million, 306 thousand, 95 meters for a distance of 2691 miles.
The top fifteen swimmers in total distance exceeded 50000 meters, and are listed here. Rich Ennis, who spent most of February wet and fully chlorinated, could be found either taking a nap or swimming in the pool. Once in awhile he would be seen snacking on a power bar between laps. He set himself a goal at the beginning of the month, and succeeded. He was not alone in goal setting, and many swimmers set high expectations and met those as well.
Congratulations to everyone who participated in Meter Mania this year. All the results are posted at the club, both alpha and numeric for you all to check out. A prize matrix has also been established, and will be posted at the club as well. Very nice job everyone!!!
