One often neglected idea in generating more sales is networking, and by that, I mean real networking, face-to-face, shaking hands at an event.
Have you ever thought of these events as a huge waste of time? If so, you need this book.
My friend, conversation guru Debra Fine, has written the fantastic book Small Talk: How to Start a Conversation, Keep It Going, Build Networking Skills - and Leave a Positive Impression!
To be blunt, you should buy this book.
There is more to this book than meets the eye. If you follow Debra's simple steps, those networking events that you dread (the same ones where you eat too many mini-quiches and drink too many semi-cold beers), can turn into money-making opportunities for your business, and you barely have to change anything you're currently doing. Just do what Debra says (or as the bands we wear around our wrists say: JDWDS).
By the way, did I mention that Debra has a killer webinar in Destination University? |

Enter Our Monthly Trivia Contest! |
Last month's trivia question asked: Where did President Abraham Lincoln, on November 19, 1863 stay and sleep after he finished writing his Gettysburg address? The correct answer came from Kathleen Reitinger from Warren, PA who correctly knew that the Great Emancipator stayed in the David Wills' house and stayed in Mrs. Wills' room. Where Mrs. Wills slept that night remains a mystery still today.
This month, here's the trivia question: Why will Christmas and the home at 671 Lincoln Avenue in Winnetka, Illinois forever be tied?
Answer this correctly and you will receive the book: "Whatever it Takes: A Journey into the Heart of Human Achievement", a fantastic book of inspiration.

Quote of the Month | |
From B. C. Forbes, on perseverance:
"When the worms are scarce, what does a hen do? Does she stop scratching? She does not. She scratches all the harder. A lot of businessmen have been showing less sense than a hen since orders became scarce. They have laid off salesmen; they have stopped or reduced their advertising; they have simply resigned themselves to inaction and, of course, to pessimism. If a hen knows enough to scratch all the harder when the worms are scarce, surely businessmen...ought to have gumption enough to scratch all the harder for business." |

Destination BootCamp dates for 2011
Our Destination Business BootCamp, the 2˝ day workshop where I teach the entire 14-step process to turn your business into a Consumer Destination, will be held three times in 2011. Here are those dates: March 15-17, June 21-23, and September 22-22. Gosh, I hope to see you there!
These dates will mark our 24th, 25th, and 26th times that we've conducted the Destination BootCamp, which we started back in September, 2002. The reason I tell you about our BootCamp's longevity is not to pat our company on the back. Instead, I'd just like you to think about why you've been hearing about our BootCamp for years and have never attended.
It might be because your business is doing just great and you don't need to attend because you have enough money and don't need to learn anything else. If this is you, please call me because I'd like to interview you for one of our future Destination University webinars.
If you haven't attended because you're thinking you might do it later, or you're thinking that you don't have the money to attend, I'd like to have you look at the photos of our classes on our BootCamp website.
Look at the businesses and community leaders who have attended over the years. You'll see owners who attended, grew their businesses, and sold them for nice profits. You'll also see the same owners attending multiple times over this eight year time period, each time taking their businesses to higher levels. You might even recognize some owners from your own cities and towns who have opened more locations, gotten their businesses on television and made their businesses famous, and others who are the leading business owners in your communities. If you read the captions, you'll also see communities from Indiana, Texas, Oregon, Wyoming, Colorado, Maine, North Carolina, Kansas, Washington, Tennessee, Ohio, and California who have all sent groups of owners to learn this process. This might also make you wonder why your community is not seen in these pictures, and I'd say it's because no one like you has pushed your community leaders to do this! Perhaps it's time they did. |

Destination University
If you are enrolled in our Destination University program, you can watch and learn from these new December webinars, all of which were available for the first time this month:
- Effective Last Minute Marketing Tools: 23 specific tactics that cost little money but deliver big results
- Maximizing Marketing in a Down Economy, Parts 1 and 2, conducted by retail consultant Tom Shay
- Financial Straight Talk: How to Keep More of What You Make
If you are not a member, learn how to join Destination University by clicking here.
Your investment to join Destination University is $29.95 per month, less than $1.00 per day. I have owners who tell me that they can't spend this kind of money. I tell them that if they eat at a cheap Mexican restaurant, order dinner, get a bowl of chips and salsa, and you and your spouse each get a margarita, you're going to spend more than $29.95.
Here's my guarantee: Destination University will help you grow your business more than that margarita!
Just to be clear, I'm not knocking the positive impact of a margarita on one's creative thinking.
Here's the best suggestion: Join DU now. Then, make your margaritas at home, and watch a couple of webinars while eating some Tostitos, and learn some new techniques that generate more sales for your business. Then, next month, you can still be learning from Destination University, but this time, it'll be more fun to go to that Mexican restaurant because your business will be generating more income! Perhaps that's the best alternative of all!
Join Destination University today by clicking here to take advantage of this social network that allows you to interact with other progressive business owners, and learn from the 50+ webinars inside DU, conducted by myself and 20 other business authors and experts. |
