For this month's trivia question, let's go back 132 years.  On March 10, 1876, Alexander Graham Bell transmitted actual speech for the first time in history.  Sitting in one room, he spoke into the telephone to his assistant, Mr. Watson, in another room, uttering the now famous words:  "Mr. Watson, come here, I need you."

The Trivia Question of the month is:  For what reason was Bell needing Watson?

This month's prize:  A copy of Jon Schallert's Tele-Seminar, "Strategies for Achieving This Year's Business Goals."

Tip of the Month: Marketing Interruption Isn't Enough

brewI was in a restaurant in Seattle recently with two clients, drinking a Diet Coke, when I noticed the coaster under my drink said:  "Washington Beer, Fresh, Local, Award-winning," and it had the website address for "WashingtonBeer.com"  Which got me thinking:  What value was this message whose purpose was to clearly interrupt my attention?

Quote of the Month

"Entrepreneurs average 3.8 failures before final success.  What sets the successful ones apart is their amazing persistence.  There are a lot of people out there with good marketable ideas, but pure entrepreneurial types almost never accept defeat"

Lisa M. Amos

These are challenging days for small business owners.  Every day, we wake up to listen to Matt Lauer talking about the possibility of a recession.  By noon, we are listening to the news telling us about rising unemployment and higher gas prices, and by the evening, we are looking at our daily revenues, wondering what tomorrow will bring.

I can guarantee you one thing it will bring:  New challenges and new opportunities to make our businesses better, regardless of what the economy is doing!  Quit worrying so much about the economy out there and focus on what you can control within your four walls!  How you position your business in the eyes of your potential consumers today and the scompelling reason you create to drive them to your business tomorrow will determine your future in this or any economy.

If you know someone who is challenged by today's economy, forward this newsletter to them.  Thanks!

Until next month, let me hear of your successes.
