| Don't Not Market to Locals |
|
My Mom used to tell me to never use a double negative. Maybe you noticed, but I just did. Let me explain.
I received a call from a downtown director in a city where I will be speaking this Spring. She told me that their group is very excited that I'm coming out, and then went on to tell me that at a local merchants' meeting, one of the business owners got up and told the group that he'd heard me before, and that the one thing they needed to be aware of was that my method of targeting customers was "radical".

Tip of the Month: Read This Book |
|
Recently I had the opportunity to interview author David Meerman Scott about his newest book: The New Rules of Marketing and PR: How to use news releases, blogs, viral marketing and online media to reach buyers directly. If you haven't heard about this book, you likely will. The book is currently ranked #1 in the Marketing and PR category.
David calls himself an "online thought leadership and viral marketing strategist". Don't freak out or let your mind blank out with these words. I didn't understand them either, and I asked David for an explanation:

BootCamp Attendance Reminder |
|

Just a reminder that we are conducting all of our Destination Business BootCamps out here in Longmont, Colorado.
2008 BootCamp Dates:
- March 3-5 (Monday, Tuesday, and 1/2 day Wednesday)
- May 20-22 (Tuesday, Wednesday, and 1/2 day Thursday)
- July 19-21 (Saturday, Sunday, and 1/2 day Wednesday)
- Sept. 24-26 (Wednesday, Thursday, and 1/2 day Friday)
I had someone ask me why we conduct the Destination BootCamps in Colorado, why don't we do them in Florida anymore, and why don't we take them on the road to any city that wants to host one. I told them:
#1: The 20-hour BootCamp and its preparation has grown to the point where it's impossible to conduct it on the road.
#2: We live here in Colorado now.
#3: The whole Destination-concept kind of goes out the window, doesn't it, if I can't even get people to come to me?
One final reminder: There are limits to the number of people we enroll in each BootCamp. Our upcoming March 3-5 BootCamp STILL HAS SPACE, (unlike last Fall's BootCamp where we had to turn away about a dozen businesses!)

| Quote of the Month |
|
"I went to a Waffle House. I'm eating and I'm reading a book. The waitress walks over to me, 'Tch, tch, Hey, what you readin for?' Is that the weirdest question you've ever heard? Not what am I reading, but what am I reading for. I read for a lot of reasons, and the main one is so I don't end up being a damn waffle waitress."
