HI Everyone and thanks for receiving our email updates.
Just a quick reminder that our Louisville KY Tri Camp is July 24-26 - so join us if you can as we still have slots open for this fun camp that includes hard training during the day and fun at night on 4th Street LIVE! And for more information about our 2010 winter Tucson Training camp, visit HERE.
I was in Crested Butte, Colorado this past weekend to attend my brother in law's wedding. It was a great celebration with friends and family from around the country.
I went for a couple runs while there and enjoyed the unbelievable mountain scenery. CB is at 8500+ ft above sea level. For the first 5-10 minutes of each run ... boy was I sucking wind! The air is thinner there and the concentration of O2 is lower than at sea level. It's estimated that one's V02max is 10% lower at 9000 ft above sea level than at sea level, therefore your aerobic capacity (and speeds) are greatly diminished. One common practice among elite endurance athletes is to 'live high and train low'. This means that they'll sleep at altitude, creating a temporary condition of increased red blood cells that lend to improved oxygen carrying capacity. Training 'low' enables there to be a higher quality of training, thus building V02max and overall fitness. This combination seems to work for most elites, although much of the research is inconclusive regarding the benefits of altitude training (and living) on sea level endurance performance. Any way, if you ever make it to Crested Butte or anywhere else 2500meters or more above sea level, be prepared to start gasping for air when you train!
Some of you have inquired about new Spinervals DVDs. Well, we have four new workouts planned for Fall release, including 30.0, 31.0, 32.0 of the 'competition series' and Vol. 5 of the 'on the road' virtual reality series. Please stay tuned for more information about these exciting new workout DVDs!
Finally, the Life Time Fitness Triathlon in Minneapolis took place on Saturday, July 11th. This is an awesome race! The winner, Matt Reed, beat Andy Potts by less than a second in a sprint to the finish! You can see a video on the new Life Time Fitness Triathlon website page by clicking HERE or visiting www.lifetimefitness.com and the 'triathlon' button.
