Hello and thank you for receiving our email updates!
I hope that you enjoyed your July 4th Holiday weekend. Can you believe that July is already here? Time seems to go by so fast these days.... whoosh! I had a great 4th, including a nice solo 50 mile ride with great Catalina Mountain views, some family time at the pool then a BBQ and fireworks... joining Dr. Sal Tirrito (the creator of XOOD Sports Drink) and his family to cap off a great holiday.
Just a quick reminder that our Louisville KY Tri Camp is July 24-26 - so join us if you can as we still have slots open for this fun camp that includes hard training during the day and fun at night on 4th Street LIVE! And for more information about our 2010 winter Tucson Training camp, visit HERE.
I recently re-installed my Power Tap power meter onto my Litespeed Vortex road bike and have been using it for over a week now. It reminds me daily of the value of training with power as a performance metric. If for no other reason, using power really forces you to stay within your zone and focused on your intensity each and every second. That focus makes you disciplined and really eliminates any junk miles from your program, making every workout much more effective. If you're not using power yet, you need to strongly consider it. If nothing else, you'll develop a greater appreciation for the TDF riders who can sustain power outputs of over 400 watts for 20-30 minutes at a time! Unbelievable!
Speaking of The Tour, I hope you are watching it. I was burnt out for a few years and really turned off by the recent doping scandals, but this year I'm inspired by LA's incredible comeback attempt (think he can do it??) and the new faces racing strong. I also love to hear Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwin commentate... they are broadcasting royalty, in my opinion. In fact, I was fortunate to have my 15 seconds of 'fame' when the 1999 Ironman Florida was televised on ESPN and Phil Liggett did the 'play by play'. I ended up finishing 2nd Overall behind Lothar Leder, and had the priviledge of Phil mention my name during the broadcast as I came into T2. Cool! I wish I could get a copy of that to show my kids someday. I would say, "See, daddy was once a fast cyclist... here's the proof!" :)
For any of you doing the Life Time Fitness Minneapolis Triathlon, please be sure to stop by our Life Time Endurance Expo booth! I'll be there much of the day - and I'll be hosting a Pro Forum where you'll get to listen to the top pros give insights to their training and racing secrets. Please drop by to say hello.
Again, I hope you had a great July 4th holiday weekend and are having success with your training and racing so far this summer!
