Ah, fall. Changing leaves, football and the return of your favorite TV series....we hope yours is off to a great start.
In the event you missed the e-mail from Sept. 28, we wanted to remind everyone that as of Monday, Oct. 4, retake exams for NHA certifications are no longer discounted. Moving forward, any student who takes and fails an exam will pay full price for their future attempt(s). Students who take NHA certification exams as part of a package will pay full price for any exams that are retaken. This pricing change does not affect first-time test prices.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you have. We're happy to chat with you about how the changes happening at NHA will have a positive impact on your school, your students and, ultimately, patient safety. We're here to help!
Warm regards,
The NHA Team |

Accreditation requirements lead to changes
NHA's goal is for all our programs to meet the NCCA's (National Commission for Certifying Agencies) standards for accreditation. Because of that, we have made several changes recently - for example, the confidentiality of individuals' exam scores - that reflect the NCCA's requirements of us. To help you understand why we made those changes and how we evaluate our programs and processes, please check out NHA Executive Director Becky Rabbitt's certification primer - "NCCA standards for accreditation" - below that details the disciplined process that the NCCA requires.

New release - HOBET V
ATI Allied Health is proud to announce the release of the new Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test V (HOBET V). HOBET V is a multiple-choice assessment of basic academic knowledge in reading, mathematics, science, English and language usage.
The HOBET V includes objectives that 206 allied health educators nationwide rated as important for applicants to have mastered. Therefore, you can be confident that the content of HOBET V is based on objectives that are appropriate and relevant in measuring the academic preparedness of allied health program applicants. HOBET V is considered an excellent predictor of early allied health program success as it helps educators gain advanced knowledge of the content strengths and shortcomings of incoming students. We are confident that you'll be very satisfied with HOBET V. It is a 209-minute, 170-item assessment consisting of questions in reading (48), mathematics (34), science (54), and English and language usage (34). Twenty of the 170 questions are unscored (pretest). The HOBET V test plan link below contains the objectives the test is based on, along with sample questions:

Two forms of HOBET V are available (Forms A and B). For student preparation, there is an online practice assessment, as well as a comprehensive HOBET V study manual. The study manual includes sample questions with accompanying explanations and two comprehensive practice tests. The HOBET V score reports include a Topics to Review section, which parallels the topics in the study manual. A sample student score report for the HOBET V can be found at the link below:
HOBET V Sample Score Report
Note that normative data (means and percentile ranks) are provided for three groups of allied health program types. A committee of allied health educators from around the country grouped these programs based on their academic similarities. Normative data is available for both total and subtest scores and can be used to compare the performance of students who apply to programs in the same category. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about the new HOBET V, please do not hesitate to contact your sales representative. |

Item-writing workshop draws
big crowd, rave reviews More than 170 allied health professionals attended an NHA and NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine)-sponsored item-writing workshop July 30 in Kansas City. Director of Psychometrics Dr. Jeff Kelley coached the attendees and provide extensive training in technically sound, multiple-choice item writing and test construction. The items the participants wrote at the workshop actually will be used on future assessments. "We wanted to bring content experts together for training, item-writing and networking," said Becky Rabbitt, executive director at NHA. "Participants received outstanding training in the science of good item-writing and assessment. We look forward to hosting the event again next year." |

We no longer will accept or score outdated materials It is vital for test security and efficient exam scoring that we receive up-to-date answer sheets and test booklets.
