Dear Valued Client:

We hope you're having a great start to summer. We're excited to send the second issue of NHA News and hope you find the info helpful and interesting. This issue includes important process information, some actions items for you, as well as reminders about some great opportunities that are available to our allied health schools.

We need your help!

To ensure we are serving your school as best we can, there are a few things we need from you.  Feel free to call your Client Account Manager with any questions.
  1. It is important for efficient scoring of exams that we receive up to date answer sheets.  We've received a few dinosaur landscape oriented answer sheets recently and we can't score those efficiently.  Please only use the portrait oriented answer sheets.  While you're at it, please make sure that you're using up-to-date registration forms and test booklets too.  If you're in doubt give me a call.
  2. Our system is generating reports for online rosters.  Please send me the email address for the person within your organization who should receive the online rosters.
  3. Is your school an open (you allow testers who are not attending your school sit for exams) or closed testing site? Let me know so we can make sure our records are accurate.
  4. Let's make sure results are getting to the right person.  Send me the email address for the contact who should be receiving exam results report.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Your Client Account Manager Team

NHA steps up security, confidentiality of assessments

NHA is increasing the security of all its assessments, including taking additional measures to maintain the confidentiality of candidates' scores.  In the past, institutions received the exact score a candidate received on an NHA assessment. Beginning Monday, June 28, schools will receive notification of whether individual candidates passed or failed the assessment; they will not, however, receive the candidate's exact score.

Registration process streamlined

We have streamlined the registration process so that we can process certifications more quickly! Students should visit

www.nhanow.com to register themselves. The new registration process will not only result in faster turn times, but will ensure that all your testers are verified and that their information is 100 percent accurate. Note: Please continue to submit your group enrollment form until notified otherwise.

NHA recruiting allied health committee members

We are in the process of conducting job analysis studies and test reviews to revise and improve on the current NHA tests. Because you are an allied health educator who is familiar with NHA and the quality of these tests, we hope that you can help us bring an even higher level of quality to the certification testing of selected allied heath professions.

To do so, we are asking you to provide us with contact information of people you know who are either working in these allied health professions or directly supervising individuals in these areas. In certification testing, it is critical that a sufficient number of the content experts involved in development of the test be directly involved in the performance of the occupation. We hope to recruit the nominees you recommend to serve on job analysis and test-development committees very similar to those for national certification examinations like the pharmacy NAPLEX, the respiratory therapy RRT or the nursing NCLEX®.

Educators are certainly welcome to be a part of this process; therefore, please don't hesitate to nominate yourself. However, our greatest need at the moment is for those practicing in the occupations or supervising those who practice. The list of professions we are currently building tests for is as follows:

Clinical healthcare professional certifications:
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)
  • Certified Medical Laboratory Assistant (CMLA)
  • Certified EKG Technician (CET)
  • Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT)
  • Certified Operating Room/Surgical Technician (CORST)
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) (ExCPT)

Administrative healthcare professional certifications:

Rest assured, we will not solicit your nominees for anything other than this project. We will only contact them once, unless they choose to participate in future projects. There is a possibility of a small honorarium for those who are selected to serve on these committees, but we believe the opportunity to play a major role in the development of the certification exam for their profession will be the principal motivation. The link below leads to a registration form that will allow you to input the contact information of your nominees.

Thank you for helping us to develop high-quality certification examinations for allied health professionals.

Free item writing workshop
You're invited to take part in a free Item Writing Workshop for allied health educators July 26 and July 27 in Kansas City.

  • ATI psychometric education staff will provide extensive training in multiple-choice item writing and test construction.
  • Participants will be trained in writing technically sound, multiple-choice items. We believe this will be a valuable experience that you and your fellow faculty members can apply directly in your program.
  • You can expect two full days of hard work. Not many forms of creative writing are as heavily scrutinized or as difficult as multiple-choice item writing. ATI psychometricians will coach you through the entire process, and the items you write at the workshop will be used on future forms of ATI Allied Health assessments. Although the workshop will be challenging, you can expect to have a lot of fun with the ATI staff and your fellow allied health educators.
  • We anticipate that interest in this workshop will be very high, and seats are limited. Participants will be selected by lottery and notified by June 3. Flight, hotel, meals, parking and mileage will be covered by ATI. As a small token of our appreciation for those selected to participate, we also will offer a $150 honorarium.
