Greetings!

As I write this newsletter a cool breeze from the gulf, small waves lapping on the beach, and the sun warm on my back lull me in and out of a catatonic state. The climate in Florida is very different from my recent tour of the Maine coast and its cold autumn nights.

What's new?

I have changed the look and functions of Serendipitous Journey and welcome your comments. The biggest change has been my commitment to both updates and in depth articles featuring wonderful places to visit.

Looking for information on places to stay or things to do? Simply type an item you are looking for into the search box in the top right column. For example if you type "lighthouse" and click on search, all articles relating to lighthouses will be displayed.

Books, Movies, and More.

Looking for a travel guide or video? Want to read historical novels or watch movies pertaining to the places I visit? Click on the new option " Books, Movies, and More" and you will be redirected to recommendations I have compiled for you on Amazon.

The New Tampa Bay History Center.

This interactive and educational Tampa Bay History Center is a must see. This is a perfect venue to start your journey exploring the Tampa Bay Region. Learn about the early settlers and their discovery of this rich land. Experience the struggles of the Native Americans as they were forced from their land. Learn why the cigar industry became an important industry in Tampa.

Where is the first lighthouse along the New Jersey shore?

Sandy Hook is the location of a bucolic park, sandy beach, historic fort, and the northernmost lighthouse along the Jersey shore. Join me as I explore the park and learn why you might run across some WWII era undiscovered weapons.

Discover the largest Italian Festival in America.

Celebrate Pinocchio's birthday, watch Italian flag throwers toss colored flags with great precision, listen to authentic Italian music on one of the many stages, and sample Italian meals with wonderful deserts. If you are Italian American or just love a great Italian festival, this Summertime festival is for you.

If you are like me you will be surprised when you discover the city hosting the largest Italian festival in America. Can you guess the city?

Harley Davidson An American Legend.

Come discover how a motorcycle became an icon of American culture, and a recreational activity to the world at the Harley Davidson Museum. Sit on a Harley, learn how they are built, and discover the mystique surrounding this American built classic. By the time you leave the museum you will want to buy a Harley.

What is an Acadian and how are they related to the Cajuns in Louisiana?

I enjoy taking my coworkers on an historic walking tour of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. Come follow me for a one day historic walking tour and learn how the Cajuns came to America and how our two countries share a similar history.

I hope you enjoy these articles and come back often for updates regarding festivals, changes to exhibits, and other news concerning the places I have written about. Life is truly a serendipitous journey. To make new discoveries all you need to do is walk out your door and begin that journey.

Many of my readers have challenges due to physical limitations and where appropriate I will highlight any accessibility issues. For those places along my journey where they are not accessible, I hope you enjoy my descriptions from your able bodied friend. Having taught amputees and deaf people to fly airplanes I can relate to your challenges and hope you will contact me if you need more information on how you can make your visit to these wonderful places possible.

Sincerely,

Carl Valeri
