Vermont Pub & Brewery
|
|
Burlington, Vermont
During the snowy winter Burlington, Vermont
attracts many visitors who enjoy skiing. What
many don't realize is the summer offers a
modicum of recreational activities, including
grand scenic tours of the beautiful
countryside surrounding the city. If you plan
to visit Vermont, I recommend enjoying a
great day strolling through the quaint and
historic New England town of Burlington.
Boutique shops and restaurants are scattered
throughout the friendly village. Certain
times throughout the year local events
including a summer festival take place in
City Hall Park.
A block from the park is one of my favorite
places to eat and enjoy a beer, The Vermont
Pub & Brewery. Opening in 1988, this is the
first brewpub to open in the state of
Vermont. The festive atmosphere is quickly
recognized by the colorful umbrellas covering
the outdoor porch. The din of patrons during
the busy lunch hour seemed to invite me to
join the party inside, and I readily obliged.
When winter approaches the tables are empty
and the umbrellas folded, but the party
continues inside. A large glass enclosed bar
affords a birds-eye view of the city park
square and the many shoppers wandering the
streets.

Riverbanks Zoo and Garden
|
|
Columbia, South Carolina
I always feel like a kid when visiting a Zoo.
Recently, I was driving in Columbia, South
Carolina and saw a road sign pointing to a
Zoo. I quickly moved to the right lane and
was in the parking lot of the Riverbanks
Garden and Zoo in only a few minutes.
Situated along the banks of the Saluda River,
the zoo has a small profile when you pull
into the parking lot, but I discovered the
park covered many acres of land and had much
to offer.

Newport On The Levee
|
|
Newport, Kentucky
The Ohio River separates Kentucky from Ohio.
Across the river from Cincinnati is the small
and historic city of Newport, Kentucky. The
main attraction is Newport on the Levee. This
lifestyle center includes small shops, a
Barnes and Noble book store with an stunning
view, a wide variety of restaurants, and an
impressive aquarium.
My journey from the Cincinnati Airport Hilton
to Newport was entertaining due to the cab
driver constantly pointing out all of the
local attractions. Anticipating a fun day
ahead, I quickly paid the driver $30 and
exited the cab at the circular drive towards
the base of the shops.
