  • Dear friend,

Spring brings maple syrup and tulips to the Ottawa area. This year it also brought a new federal budget. A prayer team from Calgary had the unique privilege of attending the formal presentation of the new budget. While they were here this week they also sat in on Justice Committee meetings and met a number of Calgary area M.P.'s.

Last weekend we had the honour of hosting a special luncheon for a number of ambassadors and high commissioners. The picture shows the special way that we prepare our dining room for these kinds of occasions. We've already received a return invitation to one of the embassies!

    Prayer Points

    1. Continue to pray about the issue of an early election. All political parties continue to jockey for position around the critical pieces of legislation that are now before Parliament. Pray that the Lord's timetable will be fulfilled.

    2. Pray for the important Justice bills that are now being debated. Pray that righteous legislation would be agreed upon by all parties and quickly pass through the Senate.

    Special Prayer Request
    Max Charbonneau

Here's a third prayer request that we want to bring to your attention. Some of you have been aware of the young 19 year old Canadian who has been sitting in a Haitian prison for 8 months awaiting a preliminary investigation. Max Charbonneau is the son of PAOC missionaries, and happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time last summer.

This week his situation was finally brought forward during Question Period by a Bloc Quebecois M.P. Our Foreign Minister, the Hon. Peter MacKay answered the two questions that were raised, and assured the other members that there was ongoing discussion with the Prime Minister of Haiti and the Chief Justice.

Here at NHOP we have known of this very difficult situation for a number of weeks and have been praying and getting updates through some other M.P.'s. Until now the matter needed to be kept fairly quiet as they negotiated behind the scenes. Now that it is in the open, and the media have become aware, it is really critical that we pray to see Max released before any harm comes to him.

Please be praying for his family and especially for his health both physically and emotionally.

We are providing the link below so that you can read more about his predicament and pray strategically.

Global Day of Prayer - May 27
    gdop

It's not too early to begin thinking about Pentecost and the annual Global Day of Prayer. We encourage you to find out what is happening in your city or region so that you can join with millions of other believers around the world.

Recently the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada formed a strategic alliance with GDOP Canada to work with their "Celebration 2007" effort. ?The synergy created by this collaboration will exponentially increase the impact of both initiatives,? said Dexter Quinlan, executive director of MissionGTA Christian Network. ?As the church in each locality gathers to pray and then moves out into the neighbourhood to serve others, we will make a difference.?

    Looking for Resident Intercessors

In the last newsletter our director, Rob Parker, put out the call for prayer missionaries. We are praying for a number of resident intercessors to come to the National House of Prayer for a period of 6 months to one year to help keep up the intercession for government and our nation. They would maintain prayer in our prayer room, regularly interceding in the House of Commons and Senate, joining with visiting prayer teams and local intercessors, and sharing in local and regional churches.

We see these people representing all ages and coming from across Canada. They would be sent by the Church of their region with some financial backing. A certain level of maturity would of course be needed and the ability to work with a team of people. These prayer warriors would carry this same burden and urgency for our nation and be able to raise their own support level of $600 per month (20 people @ $1.00 per day!) for board and room.

Please pray with us that we would be able to discern and welcome these special individuals as the Lord brings them to us.

National School of Intercession - June 18-22, 2007

We believe that the Lord wants to increase the spirit of prayer in the land. If that is so, we need to prepare ourselves as intercessors and posture ourselves for the shift that God is making in our nation.

That's why we are excited about the National School of Intercession. Along with teaching from gifted national prayer leaders, like Sara Maynard from Cityscape Prayer, the week will feature time for activation, individual coaching, personal prayer ministry and practical application.

The cost for this school will be $150 per person, $225 per couple and only $100 for students. Registrants will also need to look after their meals and accommodation. We have had to arrange a larger facility to allow us to accommodate a larger number of students.

If you are sensing that the Lord is calling you to participate in this training week, we encourage you to send us an email requesting the application form and the information sheet about local accommodations and other directions. Contact us at info@nhop.ca.

    Looking for Prayer Teams
    Interns at Rideau Hall

Due to a cancellation we now have room for a team or teams during the week of April 16-20. Give us a call if you can come for the whole week or even a few days.

Here's a picture of our interns as they toured the Governor General's residence. Just a reminder that you can read a couple of their blogs at the links below.
