  • Dear friend,

This week we want to introduce you to the world of blogging. Some of you already have your own blog, but perhaps others have never figured out what that strange sounding word means.

A "blog" is short form for a web log. Essentially it is a journal that someone is writing on a website that is therefore available for all their friends (and the rest of the world) to read.

Keeping a personal journal is one of the activities we have encouraged our interns to make a regular part of their 12 weeks with us at NHOP. Two of them have decided to make a blog of their experience so that their friends back home can follow their progress and pray for them. They have granted permission for all our subscribers to look in on their lives as well. We feature their blogs in this week's newsletter.

What a week on the Hill!

What a week on the Hill. That was the title of CTV reporter David Akin's blog at the end of Friday this week. He was referring to a week of racous behaviour and exagerrated accusations from both sides of the House. At NHOP we were kept busy praying into the whole environment.

By the way we have found that David Akin is one of the media corps who tries to tell a balanced story. We're probably biased. He did a story on NHOP that aired during the second week of January that was very fair and represented us well. We haven't always had that kind of treatment from the media.

We regularly pray for the media. They of course play a huge role in our nation and can really affect the way an issue gets communicated to average people.

    Prayer Points

    1. This week we have focused our prayers on the issue of honour. Where dishonour is sown, it is obvious that a harvest of disrespect is eventually reaped. Pray that those who represent us in Parliament would prefer humility and honour as their code of behaviour.

    2. Please pray about the selection process for Canadian judges. It has been a hot topic this week as the Conservative government has made changes to the make-up of the selection committees. We see this as another sign of the sifting that God is doing in Ottawa.

    3. Let's continue to pray for good fruit to come out of the Canada-Israel Together tour that took place a couple of weeks ago. We have heard wonderful reports about how the Members of the Knesset and also Canadian Jewish leaders were affected by the love that they were shown.

    Amanda

Well, not actual work... You see, I am volunteering in my MP's Office, Rick Casson, and today was the 'big day' where I got to go meet with him, meet his staff, and see the building! It was a really fascinating experience.

He has one of the nicest MP's offices I've been in (which is only 4 or 5), with an amazing view. From one side he is looking onto the City of Ottawa, and from the other windows he's looking across the river into Quebec and the City of Gatineau! His staff are very friendly (to fit the standard Politician Profile)!

So Rick and I sat down and chatted for about a half an hour, and we just talked about what I'm doing in Ottawa here, how long I'm here for, and what my political aspirations are.

    worship team

Here's some excerpts from Erica's daily blog. (The picture to the right is of the four girls who make up our brand new worship team!)

"So today started with Richard's class called Spiritual Direction. Most of the morning was talking through Richard Foster's book on the Spiritual Disciplines. I would like to get a copy of the notes because they are a very good summary of what the book is about."

"After class we made sandwiches for the mission here then came upstairs to watch Question Period. Once again it was a vain attempt at trying to get the Prime Minister to apologize for his comments on Wednesday. Along with this topic they brought up the Conservatives plan to bring police officers into the process of voting on the judges for the Supreme Court."

"Well tonight we led worship, as most of you know, and it went so well. God really touched and the worship was very sweet. As the 100 people came through they had an opportunity to pray for our military, our government and unity, and Mr. Harper."

More details about pricing and guest speakers will follow in the next few weeks, but we want to get this on your radar! We've already had a lot of interest expressed since we announced this last week.

Along with teaching from gifted national prayer leaders, like Sara Maynard from Cityscape Prayer, the week will feature time for activation, individual coaching, personal prayer ministry and practical application.

We encourage you to begin praying about the dates, and get them into your calendar. There is limited accomodation at NHOP so we may be arranging some additional hotel space. It will be a first-come, first-served basis. Application forms will be available soon.

If you are living in Manitoba you have probably heard our director, Rob Parker, on the local Christian radio in the last few weeks. He will be bringing weekly updates from NHOP on CHVN 95.1 FM.
