  • Dear friend,

Thank God for answered prayer! We've been praying for national unity especially around the issue of Quebec's place in Canada.

It was especially momentus for the team that have been with us this week from McLennan, Alberta. The highlight came on Wednesday after Question Period in the House of Commons as they witnessed the historic speech by Prime Minister Harper calling for recognition of Quebec as a nation within a united Canada.

Being Francophones themselves, the team realized the timeliness of their visit to Ottawa this time. They have had a special burden to see Quebec honoured and released into its spiritual destiny.

We pray with each team while they are here at NHOP for discernment about the assignments that the Lord has ordained for them to fulfill. It's always a joy to witness a mission accomplished.

    Thank You!

We don't have the means or opportunity to thank each one personally who have made financial contributions to the National House of Prayer. (We do send tax receipts at the end of the year.)

Please know that we are deeply grateful for every gift that we receive. We realize that donations often come to us as the result of great sacrifice and your obedience to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

Thank you to each one who has faithfully supported us as we raise up prayer for the government of Canada. We couldn't do this without you!

    Our Scottish Interns
    Iain & Susan

For the last 10 weeks, Iain and Susan Wilson, from Scotland, have lived here at NHOP, assisting in a multitude of ways. Iain was a youth pastor in his home church and Susan a physiotherapist, who had been involved in "Prayer for Scotland," a national prayer organization. Both in their early 30's, this couple has experienced more of Canadian government in these last few weeks than most citizens will in a lifetime.

Prior to coming to NHOP, Iain said that he had never prayed for government. Having visited our Parliament over 30 times now, he sees how important prayer really is and it has now become a priority in his life. Susan adds, "My perception and attitude towards MP?s has radically changed. I now see them as ordinary human beings doing an extraordinary job. We have met some who see the House of Commons as a mission field; they understand that they are there to serve God and their country."

When asked about their perceptions about Canada as a society, both Iain and Susan had a very interesting answer. "There is an openness and boldness in the churches that we don't have back in Scotland. Christians are not ashamed of who they are or what they believe." The Wilson?s see that as a reason that God is using our nation. They also see the flipside of this openness. ?The danger is that Canada is also open to other religions and spiritual influences,? they warn.

As Iain and Susan have traveled with Rob and Fran Parker, and been intimately involved with the ministry at NHOP, they have been especially impressed with many of the intercessors that they have met. "We are blown away by the teams, especially the ones from the West, who have made great sacrifices to make the trip to Ottawa. We have seen the impact on the faces of MP?s when they hear them say that they have taken time off work and traveled across the nation to come and pray for them. That?s when you know that prayer makes a difference."

In terms of personal growth over the last couple of months, it has been life changing for the Wilson?s. Susan reflected that there is a new "holy aggression" that has been added to her prayer life as she has connected with the Scottish warrior spirit within her. Iain notes that it has been a time of great cleansing. With all the emphasis on having clean hands and a pure heart (Psalm 24) as we approach the throne, he sees how thoroughly the Lord has been dredging his own life. It has not been an easy process, but he is very grateful for it.

We at NHOP are very grateful to the Lord for the way He has worked in their lives and through them as they have served amongst us. It will be hard to say goodbye to them.

Iain and Susan will be with us for only another 4 weeks before they return home. They are hoping to be back in Canada in the spring of next year. They are in the process of applying to the two-year School of Ministry at the Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship, and would be glad to have your prayers for all the preparation and arrangements needed to enter that program.

Reminder: Ministering to our Troops at Christmas Time
    military badge

As we mentioned in last week's newsletter, it is our understanding, after conversations with high level military leaders, that the well-intentioned desire to send packages to our soldiers in Afghanistan is actually not a good idea. The logistics are complicated and can even put our troops in extra danger.

We would like to propose an alternative. The families of our military back home could use some extra encouragement. We would like to help match some of those families with generous people who want to give some extra love during this season.

If you have someone who serves in the military in your family circle or in your fellowship, whom you know would have a family that is a good candidate for a Christmas hamper or gifts, we would like to hear from you.

Send us a return email or give us a call so that we can begin to make the connections.

    Prayer Points

b1. Praise God, that as we have been praying for a new spirit of cooperation amongst political parties, that this week we saw an amazing agreement among them in affirming the Qubecois people. Let's continue to pray for the effect of this motion on the people of Quebec, believing that it could change the spiritual environment in this province.

    2. Pray for a new effective approach to Environmental issues as a multi-party committee works together in Parliament. Pray that the Church in our nation will find its voice and play a leading role in the stewardship of our planet.

    3. Pray for the Christian ministries who are continuing to locate in Ottawa, that we will all find ways to support one another and work together for the kingdom. It seems that every month another important group arrives to establish their presence in the nation's capital.

Thank you for your prayers for our team as we minister in various places.
Fran Parker will be travelling to Victoria, B.C. this coming week to attend a national Watchmen for the Nations leadership retreat. Rob Parker will be heading to the Miracle Channel in Lethbridge, A.B. the following week and then on to Vernon, B.C. Our administrator Michle Cloutier flies to Paris next week for a short but well deserved holiday.

    representing you in Ottawa,

Rob, Fran and the NHOP team
