  • Dear friend,

It's been over a month since our last newsletter. The hiatus is mainly due to our communications director, Richard Long, undergoing surgery for cancer at the beginning of October. He is very grateful for all your prayers, and is well on the road to recovery.

Much has happened in the meantime. We've just finished a whirlwind week with the Siege Team (see their detailed report and great pictures at www.4mycanada.ca), a national prayer team is here this week, and we are gearing up for three smaller teams who arrive next week.

This edition is primarily devoted to sharing about what the Lord did as Rob Parker, our executive director, travelled with friends to help facilitate a major reconciliation and repentance event in the Ukraine.

    Ukraine Report- by Rob Parker
    Rob in Ukraine

Since so many of you have prayed for our assignment in Kiev, Ukraine, I thought it would be good to share some of what happened there and also in Manitoba upon my return to Canada.

My assignment in the Ukraine was to share a burden that I have carried the past 4 years and to come alongside the Church of Kiev regarding the atrocities which happened in a site of Kiev called ?Babi Yar.? (See the link below for more information.) Here, as many as 100,000 people, mostly Jews. were executed by the Nazis during the 2nd World War. On a previous visit, God gave me the opportunity to explain how the Canadian Church responded in November 2000 to the survivors of the St Louis ship which tried to seek asylum in Canada in 1939. (Read the story on the Watchmen for the Nations website at www.watchmen.org).

Many of the leaders of Kiev wanted to follow Canada?s lead and bring repentance concerning Babi Yar right away. To my surprise, they did so on the 65th anniversary of the Babi Yar massacre, Sept.29-30th. They felt that I had initiated this and that I needed to be present. Mike and Sharon Molnar, a couple from Vernon, B.C. who have also walked out this entire journey, joined me in being there. Here?s some of what Mike wrote:

Abundantly more than we could ever hope or imagine for!

"All of us were awoken to pray and seek God this morning at 2:am in anticipation of the march and the first step toward repentance. We had an amazing time of prayer and worship, and really did not sleep at all, maybe 2 or three hours max.
Anyway, when we read the Word again this morning from the One Year Bible, the very first words were Is: 60:1 'Arise, Shine, for you?re your light has come, and the Glory of the Lord rises upon you, see darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and His glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn'.
Imagine, after praying the way we have, and the words that we have and the burden that we have carried for the past 4 years, the anticipation of what was about to happen.

We showed up for the march, with an estimated 4 thousand people meeting outside in a cold and dreary morning. When we arrived, we were told that the secret service had told one of the leaders in charge of the event that there was to be no mention at all of repentance or forgiveness, as this was not allowed. The Lord clearly spoke that there was no ?Holding back?.
Prior to leaving Rob and Sharon both felt strongly that the Lord wanted us to bring a Canadian flag, so we did and were incredibly humbled to represent the nation as ambassadors of peace and reconciliation.

When Rob was invited to speak, he did not hold back, and cried out before God, and shared the whole history of Canada walking out the repentance to the survivors of the St. Louis ship, and indicating that as a nation, we 'stood aloof' as in Obadiah 11 (which is from the same root word for cursing as in Gen.12), and that this was a very similar sin that effected the Ukrainians in relationship to the atrocities committed by the Nazi?s at Babi Yar. None could say that we were completely innocent, we even were called to search our own hearts for any evidence of an anti-Semitic spirit. There then began a cry coming out from the people there, both Jew and Gentile. Then repentance and healing was spoken, and the crowd wept.

As mentioned earlier the day was cold and dreary, BUT when the repentance happened, the sun, the light and the warmth amazingly broke through, instantly, and it warmed to about 22 Celsius!
After these events, we marched from the International memorial over to the Menorah where traditional stones and flowers were placed, this too was very powerful to witness, we laid the Canadian flag with 5 white and 5 red roses, this seemed like a highlight in some ways to the participants as it was well viewed and photographed.
We were encouraged by a huge amount of leaders and participants that in no way had anything ever happened like this before, and that without our input and obedience it would not have happened. The Christians also emphasized that there has never been acknowledgement or repentance of this whatsoever."

(Rob continues) When I returned to Canada, I was in Winkler in southern Manitoba. I brought a loaf of bread that an elderly Messianic Jewish man had given me in the Ukraine. In his own way he was thanking us for what had transpired at Babi Yar, and he kept on saying ?Canada,? ?Canada.? I brought this bread back to Canada and felt led to use it for communion at a meeting with local intercessors, knowing that this elderly man had another loaf made with the same batch of dough. I believed that in some real way we were linking our nations by sharing of the same loaf (1Cor.10:16,17).

After the communion I was taken to see a plaque that had been dedicated to the Jews who came to the Winkler area to escape persecution at the beginning of the 20th century. It honoured these Jews for their hard work in establishing themselves in southern Manitoba and for their contribution to the province. This was within one block of where we broke this bread!

The local newspaper of Kiev said that what happened at Babi Yar could possibly be used to open doors of reconciliation in all of Eastern Europe! We were very honoured to represent our nation and it was amazing and humbling to witness Canada being used to bring His healing to the nations.

    blessings,

    Rob Parker

    Prayer Points

    1. Pray for our armed forces in Afghanistan and their families back home. One way you can pray is by asking the Lord to powerfully use the Alpha courses that many troops are attending while on their tour of duty.

    2. Let's continue to pray for the Liberal party's leadership race. Let's ask the Lord to give them a righteous and wise new leader who will be an effective politician in their role as the official Opposition.

    3. Pray for the whole issue of communication around government. It has become clear to us that there is a lot of warfare in the spirit realm in this crucial area. Misunderstanding, confusion and misinterpretation have been the operating environment. Let's ask the Lord to reverse all of this.

    4. Please pray for us at NHOP. Rob Parker was in Calgary this week meeting with city pastors. Pray for ongoing fruit from his ministry among them. Richard Long is hoping to return to work at least half-time in another week. Pray for his strength to be restored.

    Upcoming Events

If you are in the Ottawa area, or perhaps have friends here, you will want to take the opportunity to hear Dr. Jonathan David speak on Nov. 14th at 7:00 PM at the Peace Tower Church.

Dr. Jonathan David is the Founder and Senior Pastor of Full Gospel Centre Muar, a thriving apostolic church in Johor, Malaysia. He is also the Presiding Apostle of the International Strategic Alliance of Apostolic Churches (ISAAC), a network of governing churches and ministries across the nations.
