  • Dear friend,

We're back! The last month has been a season for our staff to take a much needed break and also do some itinerant ministry. It's also given us a few weeks to get a lot of repair work done on our facility.

We are also grateful for a prayer team that came with Michael Chang from Mississauga to minister to our staff last weekend. They helped prepare the spiritual house for the busy Fall that is ahead of us.

    Doug at work

    From the ground up
    backhoe

That's our NHOP "Dad", Doug McMillan who oversees all our maintenance, with the wheelbarrow above.

The backhone is gone now, and the weeping tiles repaired, but our regular visitors have noted the disappearance of all the shrubs from around our house. Two weeks worth of hard labour means that we will have a dry basement for many years to come. We're grateful to Levis and Jonathon Beaudoin, and also Adam their labourer, for the long hours they invested in this project.
Others like Eric and Conrad worked on windows and walls. Special thanks to Ruth Cullen and her team from Eglise Libert who cleaned the house from top to bottom.

    Fresh Paint
    Mitch painting

Richard Gagnon and his son Mitch (posing here) were among the number of painters who have freshened up all the rooms on our second floor. Just in time, because the first team arrived this week, and we have a full schedule right through to mid-December.

Many of you who have visited our building will have noted that there was much flaking and peeling on walls and ceilings throughout the house. You'd be impressed with the fresh new look and bright colours which have replaced the "hospital beige" decor.

    Heading back to work

Members of Parliament have been gradually arriving back in Ottawa this week. The new session of Parliament opens this coming Monday, Sept. 18th. We've organized a reception for about a dozen of them, their spouses, and key staff for that same night. We will host a dinner for them here at NHOP and spend an evening sharing with them how we are available to support them in prayer in the new session.

    Off to a good start
    Sullivan chapel

We had a full house at our regular Friday afternoon prayer meeting in the East Block chapel on Parlaiment Hill this week.

A joint team of American and Canadian intercessory leaders from Aglow International joined us after staying overnight at NHOP. We had a sense of the crucial timing of their visit in preparation for the return of MP's this weekend. It was an opportunity for leaders from both countries to bless one another and pray for each other's governmental leaders.

    Prayer Points

    1. A lot has happened since Parliament recessed in the late Spring. The Bloc Quebecois has especially been through a trying time with resignations, cancer diagnoses, and a tragic death. Let's pray for the BQ that there will be an openness to receive the strength that the Lord alone can give in times of crisis. Pray also for those who have an opportunity to minister to these Francophone MP's at this time.

    2. There has been a call of reform from within the Liberal party for a new civility amongst their members in the halls of Parliament. Pray that all parties will take the same cue and find ways to create a better atmosphere in this session.

    3. We're feeling the need to ask our praying friends to pray about security around our facility. Our phone lines were cut this week and there is a general sense of being more visible since our signs have been hung on the front of the building. Pray that the angelic presence around our building will bring security and light to the whole neighbourhood.

    4. Praise God! In the last week Richard, Terry and Robin Long have sold their house back in the Hamilton area and purchased a new home to the east of our location. They are thankful to all who prayed so diligently about this transition.

    The welcome mat is out

We have enjoyed the many surprise visits from folks who found themselves in Ottawa and took the chance to come by our NHOP centre. You are always welcome to drop in!

There have been some cancellations from teams who were planning on being with us this Fall. Most weeks have been filled up again, but we do have one week still free. Give us a call if your prayer group is feeling led by the Lord to come.

    Representing you in Ottawa,

Rob, Fran, Richard and the team at NHOP
