Dear friend, It's hard to believe that we are 139 years old! Certainly we are still young as nations go, but we want to thank God for all His blessings down through the years since this Dominion of Canada was created. This week's edition of our Prayer Newsletter reflects our passion for the nation.
This is the city where you want to be if you love to celebrate Canada Day. Over 300,000 people will join in the many festivities here in the nation's capital. Our directors, Rob and Fran Parker, as well as our assistant director, Richard Long and his wife Terry, will be in the thick of things on Parliament Hill this Saturday. Having all these revellers in one place brings a great challenge for those in charge of public security. We have sensed the need to increase the prayer for protection. Could we challenge you to be alert in your spirit throughout the day? Just as in the natural our security forces are on heightened alert, so too, we need to be keeping watch in the Spirit. Let's pray for any plans to bring death or destruction to be exposed and quickly dealt with by security authorities in any part of our nation.
We have already been honoured with many special and significant gifts that have been donated to our centre. We especially treasure a Canadian flag entrusted to us by Rev. Jeanne Metcalf. The flag flown from the Peace Tower is replaced every day. These flags can be requested by ordinary citizens. Recently a RCMP officer on the Hill told us there is only a 17 year waiting list! The Canadian flag donated to NHOP was one of several flags that were flown on Parliament Hill in July of 1967, our Centennial year. It was delivered to Rev. Metcalf's mother-in-law some years later. We take it out only on special occasions. One such occasion will be July 15th when thousands of youth will be converging on Parliament Hill to participate in "The Cry 2." If you are going to be in Ottawa that day, you will see Rob and Fran Parker holding it on the platform.
Only 2 weeks to go until Ottawa gets rocked by thousands of Christian young people who will worship, pray and cry out for the healing of our nation. Faytene Kryskow and her team have been working around the clock putting all the measures in place to make July 15th a life-changing day. We know, because we have had the opportunity to pray alongside her administrator, Isabel, as she has used NHOP as her home base for the last couple of months. We would urge our friends across Canada to continue to pray for the success of this event. An undertaking of this magnitude comes with considerable costs. The Cry 2 still needs some significant financial support. If you desire to make a donation it is quite simple. All the details are on their website. See the link below.
1. Let's pray for total protection over all Canada Day celebrations throughout the nation. Though the size of the crowds will make it challenging, let's pray that any attempt to take advantage will be exposed. 2. Pray for "The Cry 2" as the planning heads into the home stretch. Especially pray for Faytene, Isabel and the team that is working on this event. Let's pray that all the financial costs will be met, and there would be an overflow! 3. On the occasion of our nation's 139th anniversary, we ask you to join us in crying out to God again for mercy on our nation. We recognize that we could so easily fall short of our divine destiny as a nation unless we truly make Jesus the Lord over this Dominion of Canada.
4. Let's pray the words of the 4th stanza of our
National Anthem.
We pray you will enjoy a great sense of the joy of
the Lord as you give thanks that we live in a land of
freedom and prosperity.
