With the summer-like weather we are enjoying
in
Ottawa we are also delighted to have many
more
folks drop in to look around the National House
of
Prayer. Some days can get quite busy.
We are thanking God for how quickly and
strongly He
answers prayer. Back on Friday, May 26 at our
regular prayer meeting in the East Block, the
Lord
began directing us to pray for the Minister of
Public Safety - Stockwell Day.
Imagine our amazement when one week later the news broke about the arrest of 17 would-be terrorists. It spoke to us about how important it was to learn to sense what is on the heart of the Lord and to partner with His Spirit in our prayers.
Rob Parker, our director experienced great favour in his trip to the Ukraine at the end of May. He met many key leaders and was encouraged by their desire to move forward with the two initiatives that brought him to Kiev. Firstly, they want him to continue to help them establish a national house of prayer in their capital. Secondly, they received his challenge to begin the healing of the historic wound against the Jews at Babi Yar. It is estimated that 33,771 Jews were executed there in 1941 over a two day period, as well as thousands of Ukrainians, and other groups considered undesirables. Eventually they estimated that 100,000 were slaughtered on this site during WW2. Local leaders were moved by Rob's presentation and have asked him to come back and help them in the Fall on the anniversary of the massacre.
Over the last month, with the special appearances on the Miracle Channel, we have concertedly worked to reduce our mortgage by $270,000. It has been a huge encouragement to see how many people have responded to this effort. One of the first that responded, a good friend and strong supporter of NHOP, committed to a gift of $90,000! After these last 4 weeks our mortgage reduction drive has risen to around $170,000. We are therefore looking to raise another $100,000 by the end of the summer. Thank you to all who contributed already! We wanted our constituiency to hear the good report and know that we are still looking for others who may want to support this effort. If you wish to donate toward the mortgage, you can call us directly or use our online form. We receive cheques, direct deposits or credit card donations.
Training up younger men and women to be mature spiritual leaders in our nation is one of our mandates. This fall we are ready to take in our first class of interns. The term will last from Sept. 15- Dec. 15th, mirroring the next session of Parliament. Interns will live onsite, receiving room and board as they help us serve the prayer teams that arrive each week. They will also have formal training in subjects such as a Biblical View of Government, Christian Ethics, Bible Interpretion, Theology and Intercession. During their time here they will meet and interact with some key believers who serve in various functions of government. If you know of a good candidate for this kind of intensive training please ask them to check out our new Internship page on our website.
1. Pray for the RCMP and CSIS that they will continue to effectively work together in the protection of our nation. Let's pray that any others with deadly plans would be exposed and apprehended. 2. Pray for M.P. Stockwell Day as he presides over this very challenging area of national security. There are many voices and stresses that are putting pressure on him. Let's pray for divine wisdom and peace in the midst of the storm. 3. Pray for Rob and Fran as they seek the Lord about the extent to which they should be assisting the leadership in the Ukraine. Continue to pray for more and more leaders to come into unity about the message that Rob shared in that nation.
