Dear friend, Every day has an unexpected surprise here at the National House of Prayer (NHOP). Pictured below are the members of a visiting Romanian volleyball team coached by Canadian missionaries. After we had shared with them about our ministry, they signed a national flag and presented it to Rob and Fran Parker, adding that they hoped we would pray for their nation. ![]()
![]() This week a group of 10 intercessors from the Good Samaritan Church in Kitchener, Ontario experienced great favour on Parliament Hill. They connected with 9 different MPs over the few days they were here. As they met in the office of a Christian Cabinet minister, he told them that they were the first group to pray with him there. Another MP, James Lunney joined them for dinner at NHOP and spent a couple of hours sharing from his heart about how to pray for MPs. He emphazised the pressure that comes on the marriages and families of our elected representatives, and the need to pray for special protection over them. There was a sense that this group, led by pastor Ralph Rutledge, had a unique mandate to pray into the foundational issues of the nation. They viewed the debate about extending the military mission in Afghanistan and prayed as the Australian PM spoke to an historic joint session of the Senate and House of Commons. Describing her experience here at NHOP, Janet, a member of the Kitchener team, stated, "After being here at NHOP I feel so connected now to what is happening in government. Now I am much more motivated to pray and press in for Canada." ![]()

The Lethbridge Collegiate Chamber Choir led by Frank Gnandt, sang on Thursday in the Rotunda as many staff and MPs flocked to listen. An adjudicator in BC had challenged them a week earlier to go to Ottawa to "sing eternity" to the MPs. They presented several songs based on scripture and saw many bystanders join in as they sang "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands." This award winning choir was one of many who had come to a Chorale festival in the nation's capital. They had the extra privilege of giving a performance at Christ's Church Cathedral on Thursday night. These kind of national events give followers of Jesus some wonderful opportunities to shine for the Lord. The Gnandts had specifically asked us to pray for this endeavour. ![]()
![]() We are only two weeks away from Pentecost Sunday and the Global Day of Prayer. Perhaps your city is already planning on bringing the churches together. We know of stadium-size events being planned for the Saddledome in Calgary and the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Marney Blom from Acts News Network has created a great online video about this special event that you may want to view. Click on "The Day the World Prays" window when you visit her website. ![]()
1. Pray for your MP specifically remembering their spouse and any family members. (By now we hope you will know their names) Pray that in the midst of all the busyness of their political activities they will make time to build healthy marriages. 2. Pray for wisdom for the pro-life movement as an early effort is being made to get the rights of the unborn back on the government's agenda. Conservative MP Leon Benoit introduced in Parliament this week a bill to recognize unborn victims of violence. Bill C-291, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (injuring or causing the death of a child before or during its birth while committing an offence) had it's first reading. 3. Pray for leaders across Canada who are preparing to host local Global Day of Prayer events. They are in the last two weeks of putting all the details together and marshalling all the volunteers needed to make the day a success. Pray for a great level of participation in our nation. ![]()
Rob heads for the Ukraine this Sunday, and will be helping leaders there to establish a national house of prayer in Kiev. Pray for grace as he also challenges them about healing the national wounds of anti- Semitism that were opened during the 2nd World War at a site called Babi Yar in Kiev.
