SafeMinds Welcomes Two New Board Members - Scott Bono and Pamela Felice.

scott bonoScott Bono is a veteran political activist who began bringing attention to escalating autism rates in the early 90's after his son was diagnosed. He petitioned Congress and his local leadership for immediate research into an autism vaccine connection at a time when children were being diagnosed at the rate of 1 in 10,000.  While deeply disappointed with the defeats in the Omnibus thimerisol hearings and the Wakefield study retraction, Scott is inspired by increased pre-natal awareness around the dangers of mercury exposure as well as the marked increase in new parents questioning the current vaccine schedule and seeking alternatives.   He looks forward to lending his expertise to supporting the important work of SafeMinds.

pamela felicePamela Felice is the mother of a 7 year old girl who experienced an autistic regression at age two following a flu vaccine. Thanks to occupational therapy and biomedical treatment her daughter has almost fully recovered and today is indistinguishable from her peers.  Pamela brings a professional background in marketing communications and public affairs. Before becoming a full time Mom, she was employed by Fidelity Investments as a Public Affairs Manager in Merrimack, NH. Since 2005, she has actively advocated for children with autism and for biomedical intervention.  She has attended rallies and met with legislators to advance the need for improved safety in our vaccine program and spear headed congressional briefings on the topic.

Mercury:  How to Get this Lethal Poison Out of Your Body
By Mark Hyman, M.D. from The Huffington Post

If huff postyou are heavy, it could be making you sick and tired and age prematurely. And I don't mean heavy with fat ...

I mean heavy with heavy metals -- like mercury!

Unfortunately, toxic mercury problems are common. Along with polar bears, beluga whales, ducks, otters, panthers, and all river fish as well as most large ocean fish, we humans are poisoning ourselves with mercury at ever increasing rates.

There's no doubt about it, mercury is the most alarming, disease-causing source of environmental toxicity that I see daily in my practice. Many of patients have toxic levels of mercury -- and they're not alone. I personally suffered from mercury toxicity and chronic fatigue syndrome --which I cured myself from, in part by getting rid of the mercury in my body. So I know about this first hand.  Read the full article.

Mercury Alters Immune System Cytokines

A new study by Renee M. Gardner and colleagues, at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, shows that mercuric chloride (inorganic mercury) can disregulate the balance of proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines in the human immune system.  The in vitro study used doses of mercury that were comparable to those experienced by populations with occupational exposure to mercury or high fish consumption.  The emerging consideration of mercury as an immune system toxin is discussed.

SafeMinds is Recruiting Key Volunteers for Communications Committee

The SafeMinds' Communications Committee is a volunteer group of individuals who establish and execute a formal communications strategy to help SafeMinds meet its organizational goals of:

  • Educating the public and policymakers on the urgent need for mercury's removal from all manmade sources such as power and cement industry, lighting, food, and medicine;
  • Reviewing, evaluating, critiquing, authoring and disseminating research to media and policymakers to raise awareness on mercury and its harmful effects;

We are looking for additional committee members who have a few hours a week to give to the effort and have expertise in the following areas:  public relations, media management, writing, graphic design, social media and video production.  Please contact us if you are interested in supporting our efforts.

UN Conference on E-Waste
ewaste conference The United Nations is holding a summit this week in Bali to address the growing environmental threat posed by electronic waste.  The UN currently estimates that global e-waste is growing by 40 million tons a year and that amount is expected to accelerate over the next decade as consumers in developing countries add to existing demand for electronics.
