Greetings!
It was an amazing thing to see the news
headlines last month, when the California
Supreme Court ruled in favor of allowing
lesbian and gay marriage in this state. Though
we haven't heard the last of this issue, and will
likely be voting next November on a proposed
amendment to the state constitution that will
seek to negate this recently won right, for now
it is a
big cause for celebration (and many marriage
licenses!) in the LGBT community. This is
something that so many people have hoped
and prayed
for; a reality that most gay people would never
have dreamed could come to pass, and it is a
huge
step toward real equality for gay and lesbian
couples in our state and in our
country. Economically, this should actually
have a positive impact on the state as
well - with thousands of eager couples heading
to the altar in the coming months, this would
be a very good
time to be involved in the wedding industry
in California. While our
current nationwide economic
problems cause slowdowns for many
industries, florists, caterers, tux rentals and
event
planners here stand to do quite well in the
coming months! (I wonder if its too late for
me
to become a cake
decorator??) The L Spot web
site welcomes some new advertisers this
month - Personal Training by Valya, and Real
Estate agent Cindy Hall, with Tarbell Realtors.
Check out their ads
on the Home page, and follow their links to find out more
about these local business women. They join
our other local Business and Services
members, whose links are on the side of this
email. Each of our advertisers has chosen to
market specifically to you, the lesbian
community - please take the time to find out
about them, and support those businesses
who support us! Have a happy and healthy
June! Your friend and L Spot editor,
Marnie Hesson

L Spot's Monthly Women's Mixer
|
|
Join us for our next monthly mixer from
6-8pm on
Wednesday, June 18th, poolside
at Hotel Zoso in Palm Springs.
It is always a diverse and fun group of women -
come to socialize, chat with old friends or
make some new ones, and bring your
business cards and flyers for the Business Info
table if you want to network. The mixer will
be outside; their
mist system will be on to keep it cool, but make
sure you dress for summer! Happy hour drink
prices and light appetizers will be provided.
Cost
is $10 at the door, with 70% of proceeds going
to Equality California / Let California Ring -
EQCA's grassroots educational effort on
behalf of marriage equality. Members of EQCA
will be on hand to answer questions and sign
up members to help in the upcoming fight to
keep lesbian/gay marriage legal in our state.
The mixers are primarily for lesbian women,
but everyone is welcome, so come and bring
your friends! And stay after our event to check
out Cabaret Zoso, an evening of fun
entertainment in the Zoso Lobby Lounge
starting at 8pm.
Hotel Zoso is located at 150 S. Indian Canyon
Drive, one block south of Tahquitz. Valet
parking is available, or you can park on the
street and stroll over. Go through the lobby
and out through the doors leading to the pool,
then follow the sidewalk forward to the pool
entrance. See you there!
Our May Mixer at Miros Restaurant was great,
with 120+ women, good music
from DeeJay Tyler Murray, and a nice patio
venue.
Thank you to Miro's for hosting, and to
everyone who attended for making it a fun and
successful evening. After covering costs, we
raised $890 for the
Golden Rainbow Senior Center - and they
extend a big thank you to everyone!
To see photos from our recent mixers, log on
to

Columns and Articles on the L Spot Web Site
|
|
|
We have new and returning writers this June
on the L Spot. PS National Organization for
Women President Melinda Tremaglio is
back
with her monthly column on women and
women's issues. New this month is a column by
the Womens Political Action Network,
with
thoughts
on the current presidential race and what it
means
to women. And Golden Rainbow Senior
Center's Harvey Stern has submitted a
wonderful letter about the Center, it's mission,
and what is has accomplished to date. To
access these columns, please go to L Spot's
Living/Main page.
|
|
|
The goal of the L Spot web site is to help bring
the
women's community together by providing a
place
where women can find information about
lesbian life here in the desert, and also to
provide a
venue where you can advertise your groups,
teams,
events, business - whatever you have going
on for
women in the area. Thanks to you all, it's
working!
Through our monthly newsletter, we can
spread the
word to more women about what we have to
offer.
Please take a minute to forward this to your
friends
that arent on our mailing list so they can get in
on
the action. And keep us posted with whats
going on!
By working together, we can create a more fun
and
full life for lesbians here in our beautiful desert
home.
Sincerely,
Marnie Hesson, Editor and Publisher
