Greetings!

As winter turns into spring, the concept of balance keeps coming up in my thoughts. All things have relationships to each other - hot to cold, happy to sad, dark to light - the list goes on and on. The difference between winter and spring isnt quite that extreme (especially here where the climate doesnt usually get really intense until the heat of summer sets in) but even minor changes can make it hard to keep our balance in the overall pattern of our lives. As the days grow longer and warmer, our days are often fuller and busier than ever. Personally, I help maintain my balance by spending a lot of time outdoors, hiking and walking. Whether or not you are happy heading into the hills or off on a bike trip, I hope you all are at least taking time to relax and smell the wildflowers - there are lots of them!

Coming up in the next few months there is a lot going on in our valley - you will find details below for all the events I am aware of. Our annual woman- fest, the Dinah Shore Weekend (or should I say week?) and the Kraft-Nabisco Golf Tournament are right around the corner, coming up April 1-6. You will find some basic Dinah event information listed here, along with a link to the L Spot's DINAH page, a special section just for Dinah Shore Weekend and KNC Golf information.

Our L Spot Community Spotlight this month is on the Desert Women for Equality, with an update on their highly successful "We Care" Free Mobile Mammogram Program. There are also new columns from Local Lawyer Barbara Barrett, Holistically Speaking with Judith Harris, and Kelly Lynch with Mortgage Notes From a Pro. Log on to the L Spot Home, Living and Business pages for links to their columns.

The L Spot wouldn't be here without our advertisers. I am happy to welcome Native Foods (awesome veggie fare) and Mixie's (great new bar) as new advertisers this March. All banner advertisers are listed with links on the left side of the newsletter each month. I urge you all to check them out, and support the businesses that support us!

Wishing you all a safe and happy March.

Your friend and L Spot Editor,

Marnie Hesson

L Spot Monthly Women's Mixer

Wednesday, March 19th at Azul in Palm Springs

Come and join the diverse and fun crowd of women at our March L Spot Women's Mixer. Bring business cards or flyers for the Biz Info Table if you want to network, or just come to mingle, say hello to old friends and make some new ones.

There is no membership to attend, just come! Cost is $10 at the door. 70% of proceeds always goes to a local charity or non-profit group in the LGBT or women's community - our March recipient is PS NOW, our local chapter of the National Organization for Women. Lite appetizers and happy hour drink prices will be provided. Azul has a great outdoor patio and indoor seating. They are located at 369 N. Palm Canyon Dr., between Alejo and Amado Rd. Parking is available by the restaurant, or on the street along Palm Canyon or to the rear on Belardo Rd.

Our February mixer was one of the best we have had! Thank you to Mixies for hosting, providing a great venue and good munchies from their new on-site kitchen. Despite the rainy weather, 130 women attended. We raised $1000 for Shelter From the Storm, plus a surprise check for $250 from a special benefactor who heard about the benefit (thank you Steve L.!)

Thank you ladies for coming and making these events a successful and fun time!

Dinah Shore Week and the Kraft Nabisco Championship

Walking in a Women's Wonderland; March 31 - April 6, 2008

Dinah Shore Weekend and the Kraft Nabisco Golf Tournament are coming up - and that means it's time to start planning what events you want to take part in this year!

The KNC Golf Tournament, one of the biggest in women's golf, will be played at Mission Hills starting March 31st with practice and a pro-am, and the main tourney starting up on Thursday, April 3rd. Day passes are $20 in advance or $25 at the gate Thurs- Sunday. And dont miss the dance party on Sunday at the Mission Hills Clubhouse after the tournament! It's a ball!

Every year large promotors are here hosting big parties of all kinds - this year is no exception!

Local promoters Lucy and Gail's Party in The Desert is back this year with parties geared toward (but not limited to!) women of color. Their events include a welcome party with multi-cultural music, dance party with Evelyn Champagne King, BBQ Blues dinner dance, Arts and Artisans Marketplace and Sunday Champagne Jazz Brunch.

Club Skirts and Planet Out return this year with parties running from Wednesday thru Sunday, with the Doral Resort as their base. Events include comedy with Suzanne Westenhoeffer, pool parties Fri-Sunday, dance parties featuring Pat Benetar and Colbie Caillet, and lesbian celebrities galore. FYI - Club Skirts is offering a local discount this year - for the Friday and Saturday dance parties at a 25% discount, or $20 off of their Access Pass - available with advance purchase only, using the local code detailed in their ad on the L Spot DINAH page.

Girlbar is back this year as well, with their base at the Wyndham Hotel. They have a plethora of events running from Wednesday - Sunday, including Comedy Girlz 3 hosted by Poppy Champlin, pool parties, dance parties featuring Belinda Carlisle and the Go- Go's, opening and closing parties and more.

See ads and details for all these events on our L Spot DINAH page. And have fun!

The goal of the L Spot web site is to help bring the women's community together by providing a place where women can find information about lesbian life here in the desert, and also to provide a venue where you can advertise your groups, teams, events, business - whatever you have going on for women in the area. Thanks to you all, it's working! Through our monthly newsletter, we can spread the word to more women about what we have to offer. Please take a minute to forward this to your friends that arent on our mailing list so they can get in on the action. And keep us posted with whats going on! By working together, we can create a more fun and full life for lesbians here in our beautiful desert home.

Sincerely,

Marnie Hesson, Editor and Publisher
