Why We Do What We Do  By Donna Krech
Dear Donna,

I Gained at Thin&Healthy's Total Solution!

Because of the knowledge I gained from the staff at Thin & Healthy my life is forever changed.  I didn't realize I was always running to food for comfort, and I was sure exercise was some kind of punishment for not being thin already.  I've learned that exercise is not only NOT a punishment, it's actually a REWARD!

Because I either lift weights or fast walk 5-6 times each week, my blood pressure is totally under control.  Because of the weight I've lost, my marriage has a rekindled passion.  Because my confidence has climbed and my attitude has improved, I have a happier outlook.  And because I view life as better, LIFE IS BETTER!

I've received a promotion at work because I miss less, do more and am a joy to be around.  Let's just say I wasn't a joy before.  In fact, I was pretty miserable.  I was choosing to fix my sadness with food.  Now the sadness is very seldom.  If I do get frustrated, I have answers that don't equal added weight to my body.  I truly am in a constant state of victory!  Yes, I gained as a member of Thin & Healthy - I gained my life back!

I am sharing this testimonial because it explains so very well why we do what we do.  We provide so much more than weight loss.  We save lives.  I wanted to share this note I received because I believe it puts everything into perspective.  We do so much more than help people lose weight.  We help people gain in all the other areas of life.

Because of Thin & Healthy's Total Solution, this member gained passion, confidence, a positive attitude, happiness, a promotion, better health, productivity, more money and joy!  This is why we do what we do!  If you or someone you know isn't experiencing these kinds of life changes, we are here to help!

Weight Loss Hint--Drinking This Will Force Fat To Be Used As Fuel
Drinking water forces fat to be used as fuel, making it one of the main keys to success in shedding any extra pounds. And, without adequate water, kidneys are unable to function properly - prompting the liver to pick up the slack. This causes additional problems for dieters because the liver cannot properly metabolize stored fat as energy, resulting in more fat being stored in the body.

Furthermore, water effectively suppresses the appetite, aids in proper digestion, and acts as one of the vehicles for circulating nutrients and oxygen through the body, as well as assisting the body in eliminating waste. Water lubricates joints, protects organs, helps maintain a normal body temperature, and is absolutely necessary for exercise, and even day-to-day performance. With this in mind, it's easy to understand why drinking enough water - a minimum of TEN, 8-ounce glasses a day, every day - is perhaps the single most important step in determining diet and fitness success.

Amazing Member--Tom Sypherd
Tom SBefore losing my weight I felt tired, stressed and sluggish.  I had aches and pains in my lower back and neck.  I lacked strength trying to carry transmissions in my career and heavy objects.  I felt like I had a fat belly and could not tolerate spicy foods.

After losing 27.3 pounds and 38 inches I have lots of energy! I am a lot stronger, and I feel better mentally and physically.  There is no more sluggish body and I even feel younger! On top of that I can eat spicy foods again!  I sleep better at night and my wife is grateful that I no longer snore.

I can't believe I was able to lose weight while eating my favorite foods like salsa, pizza, steak, chips and even peanut butter

Nutrition Hint--What Are Empty Calories?
Empty Calories describe foods high in calories but low in nutritional values--AKA JUNK FOOD!

OK, I'm sure we can all guess what some of the empty calorie foods are that top the list but I've decided to list them for you anyway to refresh your memory.

French fries, fried chicken, chips and all other deep-fried foods A large order of fries from a fast food chain can contain up to 570 kcal with a whopping 30 g of total fat and 8 g of trans fat! Tons of calories from fat but very low on nutrients.

Candy, pop and other sweetened packaged foods. A can of pop provides ~130 kcal as well as additives and colorings. Again lots of calories from sugar but again no nutritional value.
Beer, wine and all other alcoholic beverages A can of beer provides ~150 kcal from sugar and not much anything else. In addition, calories from alcohol tend to be stored as fat in the abdomen. YIKES!

Refined grains such as crackers, cookies, white rice and white bread Refined grains do provide some B vitamins, however that's it.

So how do you get away from the empty calorie trap?

Avoid deep-fried foods. Instead of deep-frying, use other methods of cooking. For instance, have a baked potato with skin instead of fries, or a piece of baked skinless chicken breast instead of fried chicken.

Avoid sweetened drinks and canned drinks.

Try whole grains instead of refined grains. Whole grains are packed with beneficial fiber and antioxidants. For instance, have a slice of whole-wheat bread instead of white bread. Have a bowl of whole-grain breakfast cereals or unsweetened oatmeal instead of corn flakes.

Snack on veggies! Instead of prowling for a bag of chips in the mid afternoon, snack on some crisp veggies. You'll get all of the crunch and non of the fat!
Metabolism Retraining Hint--How To Stop Metabolism Slow Down
Can you keep you metabolism from slowing as you age? Here, expert advice on how to fight your body's natural chemical slowdown.

Question: "I've heard your metabolism naturally slows down as you get older and there is nothing you can do about it. Is this true?"

Answer: While your metabolic rate does get slower with age, the process is not completely inevitable. "You can stop the decline by up to 80 percent with strength training and aerobic activity," says Miriam Nelson, Ph.D., director of the Center for Physical Fitness at Tufts University in Boston and the author of Strong Women Stay Young (Bantam, 2000) and Strong Women Stay Slim (Random House, 1999). It is lean tissue mass that dictates how fast or slow your metabolism is: The more of it you have, the more calories you burn.
