Dream Stealers, Killers, Builders and Givers  By Donna Krech
Dream: an ambition, to consider something practical or feasible, to invent; Dreamer: A visionary, an idealist.  All of us have dreams, but why are so many of us, only dreaming and not doing?  There could be several answers, but one may be the people around you.  There are four types of people in your life:  Dream Stealers, Dream Killers, Dream Builders, and Dream Givers.  The number of people in each category may lead you to your answer of why you don't go after dreams.

A Dream Stealer is someone who makes subtle suggestions that cause you to doubt yourself.  "I don't know why you are working 60 hours a week, you aren't getting anything out of it" or "Why are you working out, all you do is complain!"  Now let's talk about the Dream Killer.

Dream Killers are those who have a huge effect on you.  They keep pushing and pushing until they get to you and you give up.  "I don't know why you are spending all that money on a gym membership, you have tried it 10 times and have failed every time," or "it hasn't worked yet, it won't work this time either!"

Then there are the Dream Builders who know you are called unto excellence, they hold you accountable and they support you.  "I know how much you want to lose that 80 pounds, and I know you can do it this time!" or "You are so deserving of that promotion, and I know how hard you are working to get it, just keep it up."

Then there are the Dream Givers.  Dream Givers are special individuals who inspire you to dream.  They want you to reach your full potential and can see what you are capable of, even if you can't; they keep you wanting more - they speak the dreams into you.  There aren't a lot of Dream Givers out there, but when you come across one, you will know who they are.

And remember, "If you aim at nothing, you'll hit it every time."

Weight Loss Hint--Oh That's NUTS!
Seventy--That's the number that people in a City of Hope National Medical Center experiment ate almonds daily for six months, in conjunction with a reduced-calorie diet, to drop 18 percent of their body weight. Study author Michelle Wien partially credits the satiety factor. "Almonds are a nutrient-dense food that provides healthful monounsaturated fat, protein, and fiber, which together contribute to feeling full," she says.

Go for whole almonds in their unsalted, raw, or dry-roasted state. Fifteen to twenty of these nutrient powerhouses will do the trick for a quick snack.

Amazing Member--Vickie Martin has lost 49.2 lbs, 86 inches and 8.5% of her body fat!
VickieI had no energy. When walking up and down the stairs, I would lose my breath. I tried fitness programs, but never stuck with them. I tried several fad diets, but gained back the weight as soon as I went off the diet. I love that I can still enjoy pasta, peanut butter, brownies, popcorn, and bread on this program. Now I stay away from fast food, or if I have to eat it, I make better choices like salad instead of fries. I eat more vegetables. I watch salad dressings and condiments for fat content.

My blood pressure went down. I got to buy new clothes. I have a lot more energy. Everyone notices the weight loss. I have several people a week say something. I feel great. I have more confidence in myself now. I've actually jogged with my son a few times. He's faster, but I'm happy to just be able to jog.

Nutrition Hint-GRILLtastic Tips To Keep You On Track This Summer

It's getting hot outside and we're ready for some backyard partying! Barbeque/Grilling is a great BBQway to cook in the summer and there are tons of low fat ways to do it. Here are some tips to keep you on track with your weight loss goals.

1. Fill your plate just once and choose wisely. Barbecued chicken, lean meat, fish and vegetables are all great choices but remove the skin from chicken drumsticks or thighs and cut off any fat on chops or pieces of meat.

2. Sausages, hotdogs and hamburgers are high in fat and calories so limit yourself to just one and make sure your metabolism retraining reflects more activity to make up for your higher fat and calorie consumption. Another good idea is to bring along some Healthy Choice hotdogs to share-you can stay on your plan and share the health! =)

3. If you're in charge of preparing food, marinate meat and fish in fat-free marinades or use a barbecue seasoning rather than oil.

4. Beware of chips and dips that are always at barbecues. Many dips are made with mayo, oil or sour cream and so are packed with calories. If available, stick to tomato or yogurt-based dips. And dip cherry tomatoes and pita bread rather than tortillas and chips.

5. Fill up with salad. Pasta and rice salads are also good choices if they haven't be made with mayo or oily dressings. Potato salad and coleslaw should definitely be avoided! And avoid adding extras, like slices of cheese, to burgers-instead pile 'em high with lettuce, onion and tomatoes.

6. Instead of mayonnaise, choose tomato ketchup, chili or sweet corn relishes to accompany salads - they're much lower in fat. But remember they're still high in salt so you shouldn't use too much.

7. For dessert make up a bowl of fresh fruit salad and serve with fat free Cool Whip. While the grill is cooling down, pop some bananas (in their skins) wrapped in tin foil on the shelf and leave for about 10 minutes. When you unwrap them you'll have a delicious gooey banana dessert!
Metabolism Retraining Hint--Vacation or Stay-cation...We've got you covered!
summer funSchoole Is OUT! Summer VACATION time is here!!! Family trips, days at the beach, amusement parks, etc. With no appointments or schedules to stick to, you'll have plenty more time to get moving and stay active now that you are not stuck with your day job. Here are just some of the ways you can get fit while having fun on vacation.

1. Take an hour on your first day to explore your surroundings rather than lying on a sun lounger. You'll feel more energetic and even walking slowly will burn 175 calories, while giving you the chance to see exactly what activities are on offer for the rest of your holiday.

2. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that going to the beach means lying on it. Whether you're at home or abroad, you'll give your legs a fantastic workout just by walking barefoot on dry sand.

3. Cool off in the water by floating on your back rather than on an raft -- you'll use your stomach muscles and so help tone that belly. Swimming or treading water will help burn off some of the fat covering them, too. And if you swim a few lengths every day, you'll soon burn off enough calories to enjoy that margarita in the evening (Did I really say that?)!

4. Let your hair down in the evenings and dance the night away. Not only will you have a great time, but you'll be burning up those cocktail calories as well--just incase you had one of those drinks that comes with an umbrella!

5. Try some new water sports water skiing, jet skiing, windsurfing and paragliding are great fun and will get you moving.

6. Get your money's worth -- take advantage of any sports facilities that are included in the price of your vacation package, such as fitness classes, water sports or free hire of snorkeling equipment.

7. Don't use your vacation as an excuse to skip your regular workouts. Before you go away, find out if your resort has a gym. That way you can make sure you take along a t-shirt, shorts and pair of sneakers. And remember, vacations are about having more time to yourself and trying different things, so if you've never set foot inside a gym, maybe now is the time to give it a try.

8. If you're staying in a resort by the sea, buy a cheap snorkel and mask. You'll have so much fun looking at the underwater scenery, you won't realize you're burning around 210 calories in half an hour. Make sure you wear a waterproof sunscreen with a high SPF though to avoid getting burned.

9. Whether you're at home or away, make the most of warm, light evenings to take a leisurely stroll in pleasant surroundings. If you live in the city, you'll be able to get away from it all at your local park.

10. If you're vacationing at home, plan lots of action-packed days out with the children. Take them swimming or rollerblading and join in the fun, too. Or arrange a picnic in the park with other families and set up team games such as badminton, volleyball, or Frisbee. You'll burn calories without even knowing it.

The bottom line is that your vacation can be a great way to become more active as well as being a relaxing escape from your everyday life. Be adventurous, try new things and have fun!
