| How To Stay Focused On Your Goal (Encore presentation) |
Focus gets assassinated when you find yourself being distracted. If you find yourself disoriented, scattered, or if you have no plan, your focus is going to get nailed in the process. If your focus is gone, you will not be able to do what you need to do in order to see the goal attained. Remember, we must 'be' before we can 'do' and we must 'do' before we can 'have'. If we want to have a certain benefit from a certain goal, we must do what we need to do in order to see that take place. When we become the kind of person that sets goals, stays focused, believes the goal can be hit, manages time well, organizes details, maintains a positive outlook and thinks with a solution mindset (all examples of 'being') we end up exactly where we want to end up.
We've all learned that what we believe is what we become. It's really that simple. When we believe life will go our way, it does. When we believe it won't, it doesn't. BELIEVE IT AND YOU'LL BE BLESSED; DON'T AND YOU WON'T. I have learned in my years in the weight loss and fitness businesses that what you focus on can totally change what you believe. Focus controls everything. It's amazing. What's even more amazing is that it takes only three steps to stay focused.
Today we'll talk about
1) knowing what the goal is and
2) the value of revisiting it at least weekly.
Next week I'll share step 3.
Is your goal in your conscious mind all the time? You see, when your goal is in your conscious mind all the time, you'll stay focused on it. The way to put it in your conscious mind all the time is to... Read Full Article |

| Amazing Member--Karen Shoop |

I have been overweight and unhappy with the way I looked and felt all of my life. I was at my highest weight at 250 lbs and a size 24. It wasn't until after I had my third child that my weight drastically increased. I was depressed, unhappy, and didn't want to go out in public. I didn't even want to do anything with my kids. I just wanted to lie around. It was the first time any of us had ever flown when we took a family vacation to California and I noticed how bad it had really gotten. I could hardly fit in the airplane seat. I was so embarrassed. With that feeling, and the fact that I had to start taking blood pressure medicine because of being overweight, I realized I had to make some decisions.
I had previously tried so many weight loss programs which included, Physicians Weight Loss, Nutri-System, Formu-3, and Weight Watchers. I would lose 25-30 pounds and then I would end up putting the weight back on and more. So my doctor agreed to let me try the diet drug Phen Phen. With much success, I lost 100 pounds. I was able to keep it off for a few years and then gained back 41 pounds. My eating habits were bad and I did not do much exercise.
Then a friend asked me to be her buddy and join Thin & Healthy. So we did. I struggled a little with the program at first. I believe it was because I had not totally convinced myself that I wanted to do it. I realized I had spent so much money on weight loss programs and never completely followed through with them. The support team at Thin&Healthy would not give up on me. I lost the 41 lbs and met my goal. I'm happy to say I am now a size 10. I no longer have to take medication to control my blood pressure.
This weight loss has changed so many areas in my life. I am much more confident about my appearance and I enjoy shopping. I have so much more energy to do things and enjoy so much more with my kids. They can't keep up with me sometimes! My relationship with my husband is so much better and he compliments me all the time. He has been very supportive throughout this whole process. I see situations in a more positive way and also to encourage others to see situations more positively. At work I am more organized. I have been promoted to a team leader to encourage my coworkers to be better organized and stay on task and to better serve our patients. I found I have more time to do things correctly and don't have to redo things because I did not take time the first time to do them right.
My goal is to make myself a better person all around and to be a positive influence for others to see. Thin & Healthy was there for support and to keep me on track. They made me realize that I did not need to "live to eat" but I needed to "eat to live" and it is so true. In life there is so much more to focus and put your energy on than food.
I learned how important daily exercise is and I make it a part of my daily routine six to seven days a week. This has helped me greatly with my stress level. I eat healthier and know what choices to make when eating out and I can have my favorite foods in moderation and with exercise. The plan was easy to follow which was perfect for my busy schedule. It even worked for my whole family. They would eat the same foods because they are real foods, so I didn't have to cook differently. The cookbook gave me so many ideas for healthy cooking and eating and it was fun to create some of my own recipes.
I have maintained my weight and decided to continue my maintenance with the Life Success Program. I am looking forward to challenging other areas in my life with success. One of my biggest goals is to encourage others who are struggling with weight, for I found out that support is so important when dealing with weight issues. I can't explain how good it feels to accomplish this weight loss. I have been so blessed. Thin & Healthy has changed my life. The ultimate decision is about choice and discipline and desire to want to be the best you can be for yourself. You can do it!

Make "Brisk Walking" A Positive Habit...
"Not running, not jogging, but walking is your most efficient exercise and the only one you can safely follow all the years of your life."
- Executive Health Organization
Walking as a daily exercise habit can truly be a life-changing positive habit and is one of the most powerful habits for reaching your goal of a healthy trim and fit body. Over the past 20 years, there have been dozens of studies that have proven the benefits of brisk walking.
Thousands upon thousands of people have improved their health and lost weight by the diligent habit of walking. If you think that walking does not provide the same benefits as other more vigorous exercises, think again.
A study published by the New England Journal Of Medicine showed that postmenopausal women who walked regularly lowered their risk for heart disease just as much as women who did more vigorous exercise, such as playing sports or running.
This study suggests that walking is just as good for your heart as heavy exercise. Dan Robey spoke with study author Dr. JoAnn E. Manson, Chief of Preventive Medicine at Brigham and Womens Hospital, Professor of Medicine, at Harvard Medical School. She said, "The study provides compelling evidence that walking and vigorous exercise provide similar heart benefits, about a 30% to 40% reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease with 30 minutes per day of either activity."
He also asked her about the benefits of making brisk walking a positive habit, and she responded, "they could surely walk away from heart disease and several other chronic diseases. We have also found that brisk walking for at least 3 hours a week can lower the risk of stroke, type 2 diabetes, and breast cancer.
No pain, no gain, is an outdated notion; exercise doesn't need to be strenuous or uncomfortable. It can be easy and enjoyable." Even though the study consisted solely of women, it is likely that men would experience similar benefits from the positive habit of brisk walking. Here are additional benefits you will receive from your habit of brisk walking:
* Walking burns calories and helps you lose weight and burn excess body fat. * Walking can help to improve your posture. * Walking requires no special equipment or gyms. * Walking can help lower blood pressure and help prevent circulatory and heart disorders. * Brisk, aerobic walking will give you the benefits of other exercises, such as jogging and cycling, but without the risk of injuries. * Walking at night can help promote better sleep.

| Nutrition Hint--Why Whole Grains Are Better Than Any Flour |
When grains are processed into flour or cereals, the primary concern is loss of nutrients. However, if you grind your own grains or use products that are made from the whole grain without discarding anything, you get all or most of the nutrients of the original grain. But grains that have been broken apart in any way will be digested quicker. That's a big disadvantage for diabetics and dieters.
Carbohydrates are long chains of sugars, and only single sugars can be absorbed from your intestines into your bloodstream. The foods that cause rapid rise in blood sugar are those that are digested most quickly; the worst offenders are sugar and anything made from flour. When you eat whole grains (seeds), it takes a long time to break apart the capsule, separate the carbohydrates from the fiber, and completely digest each grain. Your blood sugar rises slowly, stays slightly elevated for a long time (so you don't feel hungry again soon after eating) and never reaches the high levels that come from sugar or flour.
Grains that are eaten as whole seeds are also more filling and satisfying because they have more bulk and take longer to break down. Part of their bulk comes from water: each seed swells up when it cooks and soaks up water, which is carried in the grain until it is completely broken down in your digestive tract. (The water you drink, on the other hand, is absorbed directly from your stomach almost as soon as it gets there. Water and other liquids do not "fill you up.") Processed grains absorb some water when you cook them, but less than the whole seeds; and the water is separated out more quickly during the digestive process. Most people can easily eat two or three cups of pasta, but you will find that you feel full with just a cup of whole grains, or even less.
The whole grains are chewy and take more time to eat. Some of the seeds are broken apart by your chewing, but not all of them. Some of the grains may even pass through your system undigested. On the other hand, anything made from flour or grains that have been cut, flaked, rolled or shredded has been thoroughly pre-chewed and pre-digested for you. You may get all the nutrients of the whole grains, but you don't get the full benefits of bulk and slow transit through your digestive system.
Whole grain pastas, breads and cereals are certainly better than refined grain products, but to get ALL the benefits of whole grains, eat the seeds themselves.
