Kathy Hagedorn lost 90 lbs and over 100 inches
I have had issues with being overweight most of my life. I was teased all through school for being the fat kid and was always picked last for sports. I had a low self-esteem as a direct result of my weight problem, which continued into my adult years until I started with Thin and Healthy. Thin and Healthy has dramatically changed my life. Before I started the Thin and Healthy Program, I weighed 263 pounds. I had no energy and was easily short of breath just climbing the set of stairs up to my second floor apartment. I also had borderline high blood pressure.

I had a low self-esteem and was extremely self-conscious about the way I looked. I hated to go out shopping for new clothes because my body wasn't proportionate. If I bought something to fit my waist then it was too tight on my hips. If it fit in the hips then it was too big at the waist. I didn't wear shorts because I didn't like everyone to see my fat jiggle when I walked. I never wore anything that was sleeveless or a bathing suit because I was afraid of what others would think. I was a very shy person and wanted to draw as little attention to myself as possible. Generally, I kept to myself and spoke only when spoken to rather than initiate a conversation with someone I didn't know.

After following the program I am down to 173 pounds. I lost 100.25 inches and have gone from a size 22 to a size 10. My energy level is higher than it has ever been. I weigh less than I did in high school. Now I love to go shopping and am not afraid of how I look or how others see me. I no longer wear big and baggy clothes to cover up my fat rolls, or try to blend into the background. Now I stand up and let people take notice of me. I wear shorts and short sleeve shirts with pride. My self-esteem has soared. I no longer wait for others to start the conversation; I just jump in with both feet. I bubble over with self- confidence walking down the hallway or through a crowd. Before I rarely went out with friends after work. I would make up some excuse not to go so I didn't have to be out among the masses. I would just go home and spend the evening on my computer because computers don't judge you or talk back to you. Now, I jump at the chance to go out with friends and rarely spend a whole evening at home unless it is by choice. Since having lost the weight I have learned to love myself again. You have heard the old saying, "if you can't love yourself how can anyone else love you?" Now that I have learned to love myself, I finally found someone else to love me too. I am now married and I have my fairy tale ending and it is thanks to Thin and Healthy.

Water also keeps your stomach full and your mouth and hands busy, which can help quell the urge to overindulge at the dinner table, and curbs the desire to snack between meals.
Nutrition Hint--Let's veg out more often...
Fruits and veggies pack a nutritional punch and can be an important part of good health. People who eat fruits and vegetables, in general, are healthier. Additionally, one of the best ways to maintain weight may be to replace junk foods with fruits and veggies. Studies have shown that people who eat at least 4 ½ cups of fruits and vegetables a day are less likely to be obese.

Here are some additional ways to get more fruits and vegetables into your daily routine:
1.       Grind up veggies to "hide" in meatloaf and soups.
2.       Cut up fruits and veggies so they are ready for a quick snack; baby carrots and edamame are a cinch.
3.       Frozen grapes and banana slices make a cool treat.
4.       Include lettuce, tomatoes and onions on all your sandwiches and wraps.
5.       Forget tortilla chips! Eat raw veggies with your favorite dips and salsas.
6.       Take advantage of summer berries; add to muffins, pancakes, cereal and salads.
7.       Don't forget about dried fruits. They make an easy on-the-go snack.
8.       Shop your local outdoor produce markets for a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.
9.       Select a frozen 100% fruit bar as a simple and sweet snack.
10.    Frozen is as good as fresh so hit the freezer aisle and stock up!
Metabolism Retraining Hint--How To Stop Metabolism Slow Down
Can you keep you metabolism from slowing as you age? Here's some expert advice on how to fight your body's natural chemical slowdown.
 
Question: "I've heard your metabolism naturally slows down as you get older and there is nothing you can do about it. Is this true?"
 
Answer: While your metabolic rate does get slower with age, the process is not completely inevitable. "You can stop the decline by up to 80 percent with strength training and aerobic activity," says Miriam Nelson, Ph.D., director of the Center for Physical Fitness at Tufts University in Boston and the author of Strong Women Stay Young (Bantam, 2000) and Strong Women Stay Slim (Random House, 1999). It is lean tissue mass that dictates how fast or slow your metabolism is: The more of it you have, the more calories you burn. 
Recipe Of The Week--Angel Eggs
Angel Eggs
 
3 medium potatoes, boiled
6 eggs, boiled
½ cup fat-free mayonnaise or miracle whip
1 tablespoon mustard
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon sweet pickle juice
Paprika
 
Peal and boil potatoes until done. Mash potatoes to a very fine consistency. When cool, add non-fat miracle whip, mustards, and pickle juice. Mix well. Set aside.
 
Peel boiled eggs. Cut in half; discard yolks; and fill with potato mixture. Sprinkle with paprika.
 
Serves:  6                                                      Fat grams: 4.7
Phase:  1, 2, 3, 4                                           Protein:  7.0
