All over Dorchester, during the weekend of the 27th and 28th, there will be a number of neighborhoods throughout the largest sector of Boston joining in on Boston Shines, where community members assist their time and effort to help beautify their inhabitants. TIPS FOR THRIVING KIDS:

 

The Power of Play

Playing gives children a chance to try out real-life situations.  You can use pretend play to act out feelings.  Choose one of your child's favorite stuffed animals or dolls and have it get a boo-boo and start crying.  Ask your child: What can you do to make the baby feel better?  Encourage caring responses like rubbing the doll's back or giving the doll a hug and kiss. Role-playing in this way helps children "practice" self-control and develop empathy.
