7th Annual Martinis on the Avenue Martini
On Wednesday, it will be time for the 7th annual "Martinis on the Avenue," a fundraiser to support the work of St. Marks Area Main Streets and Fields Corner Main Streets. This year's event will honor the service of District City Councillor Maureen Feeney with a Feeney-tini!

Dot Ave Zoning MeetingBlackman

The Dot Ave Zoning Update Advisory Group (AG) will meet to discuss and review allowed, conditional, and forbidden uses for the transition of the Dot Ave Zoning District into the Dorchester Neighborhood Zoning District.  They will also review the AG meetings that occured in the fall, as well as the next steps the group will take.

Lower Mills Holiday StrollFlorian Hall
The 4th annual Lower Mills Holiday Stroll will take place in Lower Mills in Dorchester and Milton Village. Over 40 businesses will be open late offering refreshments, discounts, and work from local artists! At St. Gregory's auditorium on Dorchester Avenue, there will be a balloon clown, Santa, food from local restaurants, and a free reusable shopping tote. Also, participants can enter the free raffle for gift certificates and other prizes!

Neponset River Trail MeetingFlorian Hall
The Department of Conservation and Recreation will host a public meeting on the Neponset River Trail on Thursday. At the meeting, DCR will provide an update on the pathway project that will link the Lower Neponset River Trail to the Neponset Esplanade, including information on a U. S. Department of Transportation TIGER grant application
submitted by DCR for federal funding for the project.

Hidden Heroes   Strand Turns 93
The Codman Square Neighborhood Council will be holding its 16th annual Hidden Heroes Celebration in collaboration with the Four Corners Action Coalition. The event is meant to honor "hidden heroes" around the Dorchester community, and you are invited to join!

The Dot 4 @ Dot2Dot  Strand Turns 93
"The Dot Four," a group of local Dorchester women, will be sharing their thoughts on being teachers, mothers, gardeners and involved citizens of their community in the form of poetry. Meg Campbell, Jean Knox, Sandra Kohler, and Cornelia Veenendaal - make up the quartet of poets who offer "poems of experience". Please come out and support these local poets, enjoy a meal and socialize with your neighbors!

"Pay It Forward"   Strand Turns 93
Stajez Dance Company & Wise Men Marketing and Promotions will present "Pay It Forward," the first annual Fashion & Talent Show Case. "Pay it Forward" will promote the remarkable power of paying good deeds forward, and remind us all that small acts of kindness can make a big impact.

Annie Leibovitz will be discussing her new book, Pilgrimage, at an upcoming JFK Library Forum. The book explores the places where the people who have inspired her have worked. The book includes the homes of Henry David Thoreau, Eleanor Roosevelt, Marian Anderson, and Abraham Lincoln, among others.

St. Brendan's Holiday Bazaar

St. Brendan's Church will be hosting its 4th Annual Holiday Bazaar & Festival this upcoming Saturday. The Bazaar is a great place to sell and buy holiday gift items - scarves, jewelry, holiday centerpieces and wreaths, and more!

Freedom House will be hosting the first Annual Educational Policy Conference! The theme is college preparedness, and there will be some of the best leaders in the field to discuss education reform. For parents and students with the goal of graduation, this venue provides an opportunity to ask questions and get resources that will help you on your way to high school, college, and career success!

Savin Hill Christmas Market

On Saturday November 19, and the following Saturday, November 26, there will be a Christmas Market in Savin Hill where shoppers can buy handcrafted ornaments, vintage Christmas decorations, faux fur hats, mittens, gloves, signed children's books, limited edition prints and specialty gifts. Buy local this holiday season in your own neighborhood!

First Parish ThanksgivingFlorian Hall
On Saturday evening, the First Parish Church of Dorchester will be having their annual Turkey Dinner. Attendees can enjoy a home cooked turkey dinner with all the fixings (and bring along a few friends)!

On Sunday, First Parish will kick-off their annual winter food and clothing drive. All donations will be given to the DotWell food pantry at Dorchester House!

All Saints Haiti Movie Awards
Motion Picture Association of Haiti, Inc. presents the 2011 MPAH Movie Awards, to encourage and honor Haitian filmmakers at home and abroad. In addition to recognized high-achieving films and their creators, the event will feature a series of special awards, including one for humanitarian figures that gave themselves to the cause of Haiti and the earthquake aftermath. Humanitarian Award recipients are Governor Deval Patrick, State Rep. Linda Dorcena Forry and actor Jimmy Jean Louis.

City Growers Meeting on Morton St.'s Future
MassDOT will be hosting a public meeting to discuss several aspects of Morton Street, which lies on the border of Mattapan and Dorchester. The agenda includes: Morton Street Bridge Replacement Project, Morton St. Roadway Safety Audit, Casey Overpass Planning Study, and MassDOT Job Training Opportunities.

Holiday Assistance Programs

The holiday season is rapidly approaching, and with it comes the extreme generosity of local organizations who provide resources for community members in need.  MyDorchester.org has compiled a list of the organizations that have established Holiday Assistance Programs.


Support Dorchester's FIRST Winter Farmer's MarketBeverly Bootstrap 

This winter, the Dorchester Community Food Co-op will bring Dorchester's first Winter Farmers' Market to Codman Square. You can support the project to bring 'Dorchestrians' healthy, affordable food by donating to the Kickstarter and/or by simply voting for this cute co-op kids photo! You can do so by clicking on the image to the right. The fundraising ends in early January, but voting for the "Document Gratitude" photo challenge ends on Monday, Nov. 21, so please consider voting now!
