Girls' LEAP Open House
Girls' LEAP Girls' LEAP Self-Defense, the city's only non-profit providing personal safety training to inner-city girls, invites the public to an Open House on November 2nd, as Mayor Menino, Girls' LEAP staff and supporters cut the ribbon on their new Girls' Empowerment Zone in Dorchester.


Thursday, November 3 
College Fair & Health Expo
College FairThe Generation Next Academy will be hosting the 2nd Annual DotWell GNA College Fair & Health Expo this Thursday.  The event will play host to colleges and health organizations from all over just down the street.

NHCS Health & Wellness Fair
NHCS Neighborhood House Charter School will be hosting a Health and Wellness Fair with presenters from Franklin Park Tennis, Healthworks, Boston Public Health Commission, children's author Irene Smalls, and many more!


Friday, November 4
Dribble, Dish, & Swish  Dribble, Dish, Swish
The Salvation Army Kroc Center Boston is serving as a regional host site for the national NBA FIT/ WNBA FIT Dribble, Dish & Swish basketball skills competition. The contest is FREE and open to children ages 7-12 years old, who will compete in three age groups (7-8, 9-10 and 11-12).

Hey, Good Cooking!Hey, Good Cooking!
In this interactive demonstration, volunteer chefs and nutritionists will provide you with useful tips, delicious and nutritious recipes for you to make the most of your garden.



Sunday, November 6 
The Spot in the DotSpot in Dot
Designed and led by teenagers, The Spot in Codman Square is a teen cafe held on the first Sunday evening of each month. Raffles, video games, dominos, free food, music, dancing, and more happening Syria Temple community room.


Praxis QuartetPraxis Quartet
Ashmont Hill Chamber Music will present the Praxis Quartet - a young ensemble from New York that has met great acclaim. The quartet will feature Esther Noh and Courtney Orlando on violin, Arthur Dibble on viola, and Brian Snow on cello.



Monday, November 7  
Stephen King @ JFKStephen King
Steven King will read from his newest novel, 11/22/63, at the JFK Library and Museum on November 7th. The novel is set to be published on November 8, and deals with a time traveler who attempts to prevent the
John F. Kennedy assassination. At the Forum, he will also discuss his long literary career with novelist Tom Perrotta.




Tuesday, November 8 - ELECTION DAY   
Markets of NE Dinner @ TavoloTavolo
Check out a Book Dinner at Tavolo as it plays host to the Author of Markets of New England, Christine Chitnis, of Providence, RI. The event will feature a cornucopia of local food with an Italian accent! Tavolo chefs Chris Douglass and Nuno Alves will present a three course prix five menu of foods from Boston's urban farm markets to herald the arrival of the book at area bookstores.

"This Old House," the PBS television series which follows remodeling and renovation projects, is looking to spotlight an old house in need of restoration in the Greater Boston area.

 

Savin Hill Yoga Opens in November

The Savin Hill Yoga Cooperative officially opens on November 1, 2011! The cooperative is offering huge discounts and free classes abound. There are 9 new teachers and 12 classes on the schedule at the moment - and they are looking for new teachers and new classes.

Today's illustration is of the property at 321 Centre Street that housed the Whitten estate, which was used in the early years of the 20th century as Dr. Douglas' Sanatorium.  A brick building, St. Joseph's Home, now stands at this location.
