Girls' LEAP Open House
Girls' LEAP Self-Defense, the city's only non-profit providing personal safety training to inner-city girls, invites the public to an Open House on November 2nd from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, as Mayor Menino, Girls' LEAP staff and supporters cut the ribbon on their new Girls' Empowerment Zone in Dorchester.
Girls' LEAP has helped to keep more than 7,500 girls ages 8-18 safe and strong through its unique personal safety curriculum since 2000. The organization recently relocated both its administrative offices and its Teen Mentor and Teaching Women Center to the St. Marks School Annex in Dorchester. The new space, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, also provides enough room for Girls' LEAP to host workshops and community meetings.
The event is at 197A Centre Street, Dorchester and will feature personal safety demonstrations, raffles and prizes, food and drink along with kid friendly activities.

| JVS Bridges to College |

JVS Bridges to College is now recruiting students for its next classes (morning and evening) which begin on January 23, 2012. We serve immigrants as well as people born in the U.S.
The basic requirements remain the same: 18+, high school diploma or GED, a high level of English (since there will be both native and non-native speakers of English in the same classes), and the commitment to go to college in 2012.
Our cycles will be longer (23 weeks) to allow students more time to improve their English and math skills as well as to gain more personal readiness, career readiness, and general college knowledge.
