Dot Ave Zoning Meeting
The BRA, in collaboration with the Mayor-appointed Advisory Group, has initiated a zoning update process for Dorchester Avenue which will provide a broad overview at the mid-point of the planning process. For more information on the second community-wide meeting click on the link below.

Cardiovascular Screenings
Healthworks at Codman will be holding free cardiovascular screenings this Wednesday. The event is provided by the Brigham and Women's Hospital Cardiovascular Wellness Service. Cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index screenings will be provided. All women are welcome!

Urban Agriculture community meeting
As part of an ongoing effort to increase access to affordable, fresh food in Boston, the City of Boston Department of Neighborhood Development has solicited proposals from qualified farmers to cultivate on two City properties in Dorchester. Please attend this first of two  community meetings to hear the farmer's proposal. At 31 Erie Street, Four Corners.  

 

MAPS Dorchester Open House

Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers will be hosting an Open House to celebrate their 10th anniversary! MAPS is a private non-profit organization providing health and social services to Portuguese speakers in Massachusetts since 1970. The agency six offices in Greater Boston, Lowell and Framingham, and has been serving Dorchester and surrounding neighborhoods for more than 20 years.

Public Meeting on Transit Needs 

 



Want to give the MBTA feedback? On September 29, The RDM (Roxbury Dorchester Mattapan) Advisory Group is holding a Public Meeting on A Transit Needs Study to discuss updates made in the study. Weigh in on alternatives being featured in the study. Hear ideas designed to get you to your destination more quickly, have more comfortable stops and stations, arrive on time dependably, and offer enough capacity for all riders.

Dorchester Community Food Co-op event
Help bring food access to Dorchester! Come hear about plans for getting access to healthy, affordable food in Dorchester by building a Community Food Co-op. At the Codman SquareTech Center, 10 AM. If you are interested in voicing your opinion on what you would want the co-op to offer or in what direction it should venture then contribute by taking the Food Co-op survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/L5VMQDC.

Pitching for Tim
A South Boston child has been diagnosed with leukemia, and on September 30th, you can attend an event to support him and his family as he battles this disease. The event will be held at the IBEW/Local 103. If you can't join the event, but would still like to help, you can donate online here.

It's time for bargain hunters and treasure seekers to come and enjoy a wonderful community event! Harvest Festival & Perennial Divide
The 6th annual Harvest Festival and Perennial Divide will take place this Saturday, October 1st starting at 10 a.m. Gardeners can exchange, donate or take home plants, as well as shop for compost, honey, and hard-to-find plants. The Clover Food Truck will also be there to provide a quick snack or vegetarian meal. The festival will include live music, cider pressing, and tours of a demo vegetable garden. At City Natives in Mattapan. 
 

Franklin Park Fall Festival 

Come to the Fall Festival - at Franklin Park! The event is free, and offers a wonderful opportunity to explore the "jewel of the Emerald Necklace." At the event you can forage for wild edible plants, borrow a bike and take a tour of the park, and climb trees. 

 

Harrison Square Walking Tour
Michael Kozuch, a history teacher and Dorchester resident, will be leading a walking tour of the Harrison Square / Clam Point neighborhood. The tour begins at 2:30 p.m. The neighborhood showcases notable 19th century architecture and the industrial history of the neighborhood.  

 

Riffs & Raps
Riffs & Raps Jazzin' the Generations will be held at the Adams Street Branch Library on October 1st. This free concert will feature musicians Arni Cheatham, Bill Lowe and Kevin Harris.  
 
Brew at the Zoo
A "beer tasting" event that features local breweries as well as an opportunity to stroll among the animals in the signature Tropical Forest. Participating vendors include Berkshire Brewing Company, Blue Hills Brewery, Clown Shoes Beer, Greenvale Vineyards, John Harvard's Brew House, Lagunitas Brewing Company, Long Trail Brewing Company, Narragansett Beer, Peak Organic Brewing Company, Samuel Adams and Watch City Brewing Co. Brew at the Zoo will also feature musical entertainment.

Boston Duck Tours will be providing free transportation to Franklin Park Zoo from the Forest Hills T stop from 5:00-7:00 p.m., and free transportation from the zoo back to Forest Hills T stop from 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Private School Fair

The Association of Independent Schools in New England is sponsoring a private school fair which will include as many as fifty different day and boarding schools. The schools include pre-kindergarten, kindergarten through twelfth grade, and postgraduate levels of education. If you are considering the possibilities for Fall 2012, now is the time to start looking at your options. Visitors would have the chance to speak to representatives, learn about the admissions process, along with the mission, culture, and programs of a wide variety of schools.

Members of the public are invited to join Caroline Kennedy as she signs copies of Jacqueline Kennedy: Historic Conversations on Life with John F. Kennedy, at the Kennedy Library.
