Each September, a new class of SCI Dorchester AmeriCorps begin their service. This year, we welcome Arjun Verma, Alyssa Sakeil, Luke Barosky and Colin Hunt, who will recruit volunteers, manage MyDorchester.org, send out the eBlast and coordinate afterschool/extended-time programming. Stay tuned for additional information and a more formal introduction.
Please Note: The Dorchester eBlast is moving to Wednesdays! The next eBlast will go out on Wednesday, September, 21. Please send along announcements by the end of the business day on Monday.

 Find great bargains while strolling one of Boston's nicest neighborhoods! On September 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. - one of Dorchester's best and biggest Yard Sales (rain date Sep. 18) the Annual Melville Park Community Yard Sale. Lots of participating households and lots of great deals to be found! Anna Myer and Dancers embarks on a new venture in conjunction with Youth Link/NAFI! The Hoop Suite Project relies on the interface of various art forms, and the creative participation of urban youths. Classical violin, contemporary dance, Hip Hop, rap and spoken word unite to create a new language; language being that tool which connects people, communities and enables social change.

Caroline Kennedy Book Signing

 Members of the public are invited to join Caroline Kennedy as she signs copies of Jacqueline Kennedy: Historic Conversations on Life with John F. Kennedy. The deluxe book and CD set, to be published by Hyperion on September 14, 2011, will make available for the first time the audio and transcripts of seven interviews given by Mrs. Kennedy shortly after her husband's death. Copies of Jacqueline Kennedy: Historic Conversations on Life with John F. Kennedy will be available for purchase in the JFK Museum Store prior to the book signing.

Now Accepting Applications: Clemente Course in the Humanities
|
The Clemente Course in the Humanities provides college level instruction, with the award of college credits, to individuals at no cost and in an accessible and welcoming community setting. Participants study four disciplines: literature, art history, moral philosophy, and American history. Students explore great works of fiction, poetry, drama, painting, sculpture, architecture, and philosophy, while learning also about the events and ideals that define America as a nation. The course also offers instruction in writing and critical thinking.
Clemente classes will be held at the Codman Square Technology Center, 450 Washington Street, Dorchester on Monday and Wednesday evenings beginning October 2011 and running through June 2012.
