Check the link below for times, locations of Dorchester and Mattapan area farmers' markets, which will be going strong every week until the end of October. SNAP benefits can be used at all local markets.

Dorchester Open Studios seeks Performers

DAC logo This year's Dorchester Open Studios event on October 22 and 23, will include not only the largest collection of visual artists in Dorchester Open Studios history, but also two days of performance art. Dancers, singers, poets, actors, writers, filmmakers, and musicians are all invited to participate! September 2d is the deadline.

barber Mattapan's Finest Barber presents the 2nd Annual Free Cuts, Curls and Locks Back To School Event this Sunday. There will be hair cuts, press and curls, wash and sets and re-twist of locks. There will also be food and school supplies for children 12 and under (while supplies last), all free of charge.

Now Accepting Applications: Clemente Course in the Humanities

The Clemente Course in the Humanities provides college level instruction, with the award of college credits, to individuals at no cost and in an accessible and welcoming community setting. Participants study four disciplines: literature, art history, moral philosophy, and American history. Students explore great works of fiction, poetry, drama, painting, sculpture, architecture, and philosophy, while learning also about the events and ideals that define America as a nation. The course also offers instruction in writing and critical thinking.

Clemente classes will be held at the Codman Square Technology Center, 450 Washington Street, Dorchester on Monday and Wednesday evenings beginning October 2011 and running through June 2012.

A Clemente informational session will be held at the Codman Square Tech Center, September 7th at 6pm.  


SCIDorchester is looking for a few good people
MyDot website icon We are still recruiting for positions for the upcoming year, SCIDorchester @ DotWell AmeriCorps members will serve between September 2011 and June 2012. Members selected on a rolling basis.
  • Outreach & Technology Coordinator implements technology (such as this website!) and traditional outreach efforts to connect citizens with the information they need to participate in civic life. 
  • Youth Leadership Coordinator provides leadership training to youth and engages them in Community Service Learning (CSL) and other civic activities.
