Saving Water, Saving Seed
BIGG The hot month of August is the perfect to implement water saving techniques in your garden. Learn how to conserve water and how to collect seeds for next year's garden! Workshop takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. on August 11.

Puppetmaking Workshop
Puppets The story's in your hands! Come to Lower Mills Branch Library on Thursday, August 11 for a puppetmaking workshop with Charlotte Dore (of Rosalita's Puppets). Space is limited and pre-registration is required.

Outside Movie Night: "Despicable Me" 

Movie Night Each movie incorporates a theme based on the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute's Seven Principles of Peace. Evaluations distributed following each screening will invite spectators to describe their own perception of how these various themes of peace are embodied in the films. The Peace Institute's Seven Principles of Peace include Love, Unity, Faith, Hope, Courage, Justice, and Forgiveness.

Cultural Party @ Fields Corner Library

Cultural Party Enjoy various cultural instuments such as a rainstick, Mexican drums, maracas and more. Have fun with activities like playing instrument games and creating Guatamalan worry dolls. You can even practice dances from around the world. Be there and don't miss this party!

"Blue is Back" Family Beach Bash
Beach Save the Harbor / Save the Bay will host a Family Beach Bash this summer! On Friday, August 12 the celebration will kick off with a day of kids' events and activities on Carson Beach, including a sand castle competition and kite-flying contest.

Renew Boston Workshop
Renew Boston Mayor Menino's Renew Boston initiative is hosting an energy efficiency workshop for Boston landlords. A Dorchester workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on August 13. Pastries and coffee will be served! Information about no-cost home energy improvements available through the federal recovery act and utility-sponsored efficiency programs will be provided.

Multicultural Festival @ Mary Hannon Park
Park Celebrate the cultures of the Dudley neighborhood at Mary Hannon Park on Dudley St in Dorchester on Saturday, August 13, 2011. This youth-organized festival will feature stage performances by local artists, a fashion show, food, games and more!

Bowdoin-Geneva Community Day
VIP This community day features ample entertainment, free food (hamburger, hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, ice cream) and fun. Boston Police K-9 dogs will be present, as will a fire truck, face painters and more. There will also be resources there for the community. This event is open to the whole Dorchester Community, for all ages, young and old.

Mattapan Bike-A-Thon
Mattapan Bike-A-Thon Don't miss this event to view our wonderful community in a bike ride through Mattapan followed by a special biking event for children! Participants in the community bike ride must be 14 years or older and pre-registration is required.  Loaner bikes will be available and every participant gets a free bike helmet!

Picnic in the Park: Toe Jam Puppet Band

Picnic in the Park On Tuesday, August 16, experience the unique charm of marionettes when Toe Jam Puppet Band performs at 6:30 p.m.! Sing and dance along with the band as they entertain with a unique combination of original songs, masterful shadow puppetry, storytelling and just plain old good fun.

Dot HouseDot House Seeks Auction Items! 

On Friday, October 28, 2011, Dorchester House Multi-Service Center will host the first annual Masquer-Aid Ball to benefit urgent care services for our 21,000 patients. As this is Dot House's first-ever fundraising event, the health center is starting at the grass-roots level, seeking support from community members, organizations, and businesses to make it a success. Thus, Dorchester House is looking for silent auction item(s) or donation. Please consider helping out by donating and sending it to Mary Truong, DH External Relations Director. My Dot Tour

The Fields Corner Collaborative is pleased to kick off My Dot Tour, a multimedia, youth-led walking tour of Fields Corner in Dorchester this August! On the first two weekends in August, My Dot Tour teen guides will for the second year lead participants on hour-long walking tours of Fields Corner. The tours will present a narrative of not only the past, but also the present and future of this diverse and exciting community.
