Nightgale Community Garden Grand Opening
Community Garden You are invited to the Nightingale Community Garden Grand Opening at 12:30 PM on Aug. 6! Join Mayor Menino, gardeners, neighbors, supporters and special guests to celebrate the inaugural season of bounty at the expanded and renovated Community Garden. Explore 130 individual garden plots full of vegetables, herbs and flowers. Listen to music and enjoy refreshments.

Crafts Two great events at Lower Mills Branch Library make Monday, August 8, a blast for families with kids! At 3 p.m., you can enjoy "One World, Many Stories: Storytime & Craft w/ The Pierce House" as part of the Boston Public Library's Summer Reading program. Show up at 6 p.m. for Lower Mills's Monday Night Movie - this time, the film will be "Gnomeo & Juliet."

Picnic in the Park

Stories Picnic in the Park Community Bridging is a program that offers an opportunity for children, teens, and families to join together with the elderly to share knowledge & experiences while enjoying music, crafts, and other activities. All events take place in Garvey Park. On Monday, August 8, experience the unique charm of marionettes when Rosalita's Puppets performs! Enjoy tales of dragons, kings, princesses, mermaids and ghosts who sing and dance.

Elma Lewis Playhouse in the Park

Elma Lewis On Tuesdays, the Franklin Park Coalition's Elma Lewis Playhouse in the Park hosts free concerts and films. Morning events include dancing and drumming for kids and their families. Evening events include various genres of music and talent acts. On August 9th - Latino Movie Night: a selection of shorts and one major length film from the Boston International Latino Film Festival.

Building Bridges to Business

LOT On Aug. 10 the Boston, Massachusetts Chapter of the National Black MBA Association's Leaders of Tomorrow® (LOT), will host its first annual "Building Bridges to Business" reception. LOT is an academic enrichment and leadership development program serving high school students between the ages of 14 and 18 who demonstrate leadership potential with a specialized curriculum that focuses on mentoring, college preparation, cultural exposure, and experiential learning in subjects like entrepreneurship and financial literacy.

The Robinson Building behind Hero's Square in Fields Corner at the apex of the angle formed by Dorchester Avenue and Adams Street looked much different when it was first built about 1872.  Next time you are Fields Corner, please try to compare the enlarged, stucco-covered building with the original.

 

Teen guides will present free tours of Field's Corner
