Dorchester Flashback

Dorchester Illustration of the Day no. 1521
Today's illustration is a detail from a bird's-eye view of Lower Mills from 1890. Boston: O.H. Bailey & Co., Lith. & Pub., 1890.
If you find River Street running horizontally through the illustration and count from the left edge over 5 or 6 buildings on the south (nearer) side of the street, you will see the Stoughton School. My pasting together of different scans has resulted in an obvious split through the building. Across the street is the Village Church and to the left of that the fire station, both now gone. When you look at the Lower Mills intersection, you will see the old buildings on the west side of Adams Street, now replaced by Baker mill buildings and the Baker Administration Building.
If you would like to receive a historical image via daily e-mail, please join the Dorchester Historical Society's group by joining this google group. You may also want to contact Earl Taylor
