April's Business of the Month: Savin Scoop! |
At mydorchester.org we always like to be in-the-know about our neighborhood. Now we can always get the scoop two ways at Savin Scoop, serving up its slogan "Local Ice Cream, Local Gossip."
Meet Joe Conway, a true know-it-all about ice cream and the community. Located near Savin Beach, Savin Park, schools, and a growing community of families, it seemed to Joe and partner Ken Osherow that "an ice cream shop was needed." Since it's opening in November of last year the community has caught on and proved this to be true.
Savin Scoop brings in a diverse clientele, acting as a community center with sweet rewards. Students from nearby schools flood the shop from 3-5, giving them a safe environment to hang out and grab a treat. All this goodness is not just for the kids - come check your email with free WIFI and enjoy fresh espresso.
This wonderful new arrival is not only getting attention from the Dorchester community, yesterday Mayor Menino graced us with his presence on Savin Hill Ave to cut the ribbon for Savin Scoop! Menino then meandered down the street, shaking hands with residents and popping into four other shops which have created 70 new jobs in Savin Hill; MTV Hair & Nails, At Home Real Estate, McKenna's Cafe, and the newly opened Savin Bar + Kitchen. The community then gathered together at Savin Bar and Kitchen for some drinks and scrumptious appetizers, concluding a mementous occasion for this community.
Joe has the right attitude about being a neighborhood business, "It's always about the neighborhood," he insists, "They are your supporters. Be there for the community, be a part of the community." For mydorchester.org, that is music to our ears. And combined with the delectable sight, taste, and smell of sweet cream, coffee, and fruit - we are more than satisfied to call Savin Scoop our April 2011 Business of the Month!
