"What Parish Are You From?" Benefit |
 The Leahy-Holloran Community Center is hosting a benefit this Friday evening called, "What Parish Are You From?". The event is based on the term parish, which represents a historical section under the care of one church, or parish priest. Whether you are religious or not, come learn about the rich history of Dorchester. And no matter what parish you are from, everyone is welcome at the Leahy-Holloran Community Center!

 The comedy duo Gould and Stearns are performing a show about the holidays that's sure to make you laugh! This show is part of The Celebrate! series, which focuses on entertainment appropriate for families and children ages 5 and up. Reservations are recommended so come bring your friends and family to this fun event for the kids!

The Dorchester Holiday Celebrations Committee Trolley Tour |
Mayor Menino and other special guests will be riding the Dorchester Holiday Celebrations Trolley Tour this Saturday and will be making ten stops at Tree Lightings in Dorchester. The trolley will depart from Florian Hall and ends over at Peabody Square. Each stop will have festive treats, from hot chocolate to sing-a-long carols! The Dorchester Holiday Celebrations Committee invites you to start the holiday season in style!

Judge Gordon Martin Book Talk at JFK | Judge Gordon A. Martin will discuss his new book Count Them One by One: Black Mississippians Fighting for the Right to Vote. All forums are free and open to the public, so come learn about the 1962 court case that resulted in one of the first victories for voting rights in the South.

Boston Harbor Sea Level Rise Community Meeting |

The Boston Harbor Association are hosting a meeting for the community on the sea level rising. Specially prepared maps will be displayed showing the potential impacts of the this issue on South Boston and Dorchester. This event is free of charge and sandwiches and refreshments will be provided. The community is encouraged to come and see what they can do to help in this time of crisis.

Events for Homicide Survivors and Families Impacted by Violence |
Tuesday evening there will be a Memorial Event for Survivors at the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute. The Teen to Teen Survivor Group invites all families who have been impacted by violence in the Dorchester area to join in the creation of a Memorial Table. Families are encouraged to bring any pictures or sentimental tokens to be added to the table. Dinner will be served and all ages are welcome.
There are also several other events coming up in December for Victims Awareness Month.

World AIDS Day |
The Dorchester House Multi-Service Center and The Codman Square Health Center will both be hosting events on AIDS Awareness. Each event will involve a variety of informative activities on awareness. HIV Testing will be available and all your HIV and STD-related questions can be answered.

The "Act for the Encouragement of Making Paper" passed on September 13, 1728 by the General Court, gave Daniel Henchman (a well-to-do bookseller of Boston) and his partners, Thomas Hancock (uncle of the illustrious John), Gillam Phillips, Benjamin Faneuil, and Henry Deming, the exclusive right to manufacture paper in the Province for ten years.
